What would you do to make a place that would make the player come back or "I know where that is!"
Like from skyrim allways have some uniqe ending in dungeons (most of them) with a shrine/boss or item for a quest also some of its look.

WoW (world of warcraft) where each location being different with their own theme/culture or how thing works (spirits, mechanical creatures, even though some is more theme related).
Also that mostly in some areas you learn what you "need" to learn to progress so you remember them by "here I learned fishing, and here combat or magic while over there how to tame pets!"


Art/models being a hard time to become a good or bad thing, like for instant if the world is filled with too much things its hard to remember or make it worth remembering (atleast if it would just look like a different verison of another messy world/location/level)

People tend to remember places they had strong experiences at. Everything else probably only acts to facilitate this.
