Let me save you some time.

Take the story of the original Gundam, populate it with shite character design, and then insert two overpowered Mary Sues who turn the script to poop.

Watch G Gundam (or literally any other Gundam!) instead. ... Though, if you're a Wing fan, you might get more out of Gundam 00.

Thanks for the suggestion. To be honest I checked out wing again as I watched it years ago on toonami and apparently in my mind it was much better then it actually is lol although I do like the gundam designs in that series. Watched 3 episodes of seed and just wasnt feeling it. Even though im not aware of the gundam universe in unicorn ive still been enjoying it so far although id rather be caught up with gundam series that are connected to it as I have no idea of the important plot events that are talked about

IMHO, nothing is better than the story(s) within the main UC timeline. It's really not that bad or daunting to watch them all.

But, if you want to watch a very good stand-alone story not part of the main UC timeline, then watch Gundam 00. It's fantastic and deals with many issues facing our world today.

Episode 4

Way to spoil things in the recap segment to out Audrey's true identity before it actually happens late in the episode. Anyway, the second coming of Char has made his presence known to everybody and the fight over Laplace's Box begins. And things aren't looking too good for Banagher, who was injured in action just after finding out that Cardeas is his father and now he is caught in the middle of it all. Things sure have gotten chaotic in typical Gundam fashion.

Alright, I'm sort of taking it slowly with this show, and I think that I'll post my thoughts every two episodes from hereon out as I'm behind.

Episodes 5 and 6

Full Frontal wants Banagher to join his cause, but of course all he's thinking about is to not let another war happen. He means well, but the way he's going about it is all wrong. Next time, Palau is about to be attacked.

This show is hard to watch. It reminds me of what I didn't like about Gundam. I really liked the 00 series and iron blooded orphans.

Banagher is too whiny. The multiple side switching is lame and did I mention how whiny banagher is? Quite frankly I don't see how this is one of the revered shows in the Gundam universe

I'm enjoying RE:0096, but I wish that Banagher wasn't the main. I'm actually baffled that others let him run his mouth so much. He's giving off that Naruto preacher vibe.

The main draw for me is Mineva. She has a strong drive and composure. The viewers can tell that she's very stressed, but she still maintains a dignified appearance. I wish that the show focused on her journey rather than Banagher's. Very eager to witness what she can accomplish. The other characters, Full Frontal, Marida, and Zinnerman, are also interesting. Hmm.. with such a list, I guess I'm on the Zeon's side for this show. Also, the animation and action in this series (particularly Marida's battles) are superb.

Reasons:
1.) It is set in the original (Universal Century) timeline.
2.) It is damn pretty.
3.) For us ZZ Gundam fans, it answers the Mineva question from the end of that series, among others.

I finally caught up with this series, and it certainly helps that there's room for recap of what happened so far seeing that Gundam shows aren't exactly easy to understand with so much going on and so many characters to keep track of. Seeing that there's about three minutes of recap every episode that I have to think that there's no actual extra footage and the recap is what was meant by that.

I must say that the whole mystery of Laplace's Box has been intriguing, but the show didn't get off to the best of starts. Anyway, the most recent episode goes to show just how people's minds are easily influenced, and in the case of Loni she had been all about misguided anger. But at least she snapped back to herself so that her misery ends.

Episode 16

When Full Frontal was explaining what the situation was I finally understood why I am confused about why who was doing what to whom in this series. And that preview, it sounds like Banagher is about to break the dry spell of not being captured by some other team.

This show wasn't really fit - or meant - to be aired on TV. It is too loaded with baggage from the UC timeline, and it's meant to bring closure to UC fans about many questions. I'd point them all out here if I could, but that would really spoil a lot of the UC as a whole. 00 and IBO, on the other hand, require absolutely no previous knowledge, and can be enjoyed as they are.

When I first watched the OVA version of Unicorn, I didn't really get much either. I was absolutely confused by the end of the first OVA, and I then made sure to watch the UC timeline before the second one was released. It was a completely different experience from then on. Even though the old shows aged quite a lot, I liked them quite a lot (yes... even ZZ) and I now understand why UC fans get a little zealous. It's a very good story overall, and Unicorn masterfully closes the story.

It doesn't answer everything. Some things are left to subtext, and some are outright just never explained at all... but it is closure in the most important areas: from characters to the very nature of the Earthnoid-Spacenoid conflict, and the Newtype question. And the few answers it doesn't provide are best left to the hearts and minds of the fans anyway.

Banagher is whiny. He's even weak for most of the series. But in the end, he's a kid thrown into a war spanning a century and aboard the cockpit of a weapon with endless possibility. He needed guidance to find his path, and he finds it slowly by every person he meets, from Audrey to... well, you'll see. The side-switching is a key part of the conclusion both the series and Banagher himself will reach.

I'm rambling, I know, but I urge you to see it to the end, and if you can/would, watch the rest of the UC timeline or at least read part of it. As a whole work, it is an integral part of mecha anime history, and despite its flaws a very good work. Unicorn will make a whole lot of sense to you then.

If you knew how much foreshadowing and spoilers there are in the openings/endings of this series alone...

It all comes down to "understanding", as countless Gundam protagonists say.
