Well paced, well animated, but feels very generic. From the OP, to portrayals of certain characters, this series has many aspects that feel generic.

What I liked:
-Good world building; I liked the introduction of all the different powers available and there's a good variety already
-Good animation; It's really well done. Good job Bones
-Well paced. It didn't feel too fast or too slow
-Good transitions between serious and humorous scenes (I do think that the serious scenes aren't well placed though... they came out of nowhere sometimes)
-The MC's motivations are nice. Feels a bit generic in how he's fighting the odds because he doesn't have a quirk and is trying to become a hero, but he has the possibility to develop into something good. AS LONG AS HE DOESN'T TURN INTO AN INSANELY OVERPOWERED PROTAGONIST WITH NO WEAKNESSES, we're all good!

What I didn't like:
-Generic theme ("beating the odds and pulling through" is becoming tiresome and annoying)
-Generic side characters; Rival character seems way too 1-dimensional and has no real motivations as to why he hates the MC. Just gonna turn out to be some rival that the MC may fight in the future
-Generic OP. The OP animation doesn't do anything new or creative in showing off the cast. It feels uninspired and is kind of boring to be frank. The OP also needs more energy. I like the song, but if it had more energy, it'd work a lot better with the show
-What's with the running in the ED? Why do so many shows have running in the OP and ED when, frankly, it doesn't fit?

Not much else to say. It feels generic, but has potential. It could get better, but with such a large cast of characters and Bones's hit or miss track record, it could go either way. I'll watch more because it's the talk of the season.

I watched this with some expectations. But hey I think it's very good.

For the OP. I for one enjoyed it as I am an avid fan of Porno Grafiti.

The ED is alot better than the opening though no matter how much I like PG.

This reminded me a lot of that Kurt Russel movie Sky High? In that the superhero-school attending MC is the child of two superheroes but is apparently lacking in special abilities.

The Rival developes really nicely actually. He never stops being a loud mouthed jack ass but we do get a good look inside his head.

That look doesn't make him any more likable but oddly enough it rounds him out nicely as Deku's Rival, and strangely enough Deku's role in shaping who he is now. They may be very different people but at their core there is one common factor

It's easy to loop so you can have an ED that has something going on but won't distract from the credits.

In this instance I rather liked it as it reinforces his chasing his dream via running after the star.

I'm intrigued enough by the first episode to want to see more. I do agree with the feeling that it's OPM in reverse.

I have to wonder, in a world where 80% of the population has some sort of super power how off-kilter you'd need to be (or crazy powerful) to try and commit crimes? It'd be like trying to rob a bank knowing that 80% of the people in the bank are carrying guns. Are there laws or taboos in place that if you aren't a Hero you don't use your Quirk?

Deku becomes very powerful, but pays an extraordinary price for using that power. He is no Saitama.

Give the show a few episodes to set up the storyline and build the world, it will all make sense.

Looks amazing so far. Too bad its only 13 episodes, but its better than endless filler or lackluster animation and pacing.

My Hero Academia is one of the more outstanding Shonen Jump series to come out recently, but its approach is very by-the-books. So, to those of you who complain about "generic" shonen series, this one might not be for you.

I'm glad he isn't someone like Vegeta who suddenly becomes friends with the MC because the MC beat him or something. I'm also glad his personality doesn't do a 180 just because of the MC. Wishy-washy characters are something I despise in shows! I don't expect everything in episode 1, but I do think that if characters are shown as 1 dimensional antagonists, they should have some sort of reasoning besides "he was always like that" or "he's jealous of the MC because reasons".

I may not have mentioned this, but I liked how they set up the MC's motivations. Although not unique, it was handled well enough to make me care for his character just a little (it's only episode 1 so I'm hoping for more of that). I hope that's the case for the rest of the cast, seeing as it is so big, but side characters might not get that kind of special treatment.

Sounds like something close to HxH with the "paying a price for power". I obviously haven't read the manga, but it'd be interesting if they added some psychological aspects into this show. As I said, I'm gonna keep up with the show so my opinion isn't solely based on episode 1 forever. I've heard great things of how it interprets western superheroes in a different way. I hope that's executed well. I did say that I liked the world building, and I'm guessing that more will be explained.

Yeah, and it's one of the better Disney channel original movies imo. That isn't to say it's close to a good movie, but it's decent in what it does.

I'm guessing that, just like Deku's mom having a useless power, the majority of the population has useless powers that wouldn't help fight crime.

I also see what you mean with the "aspirations vs reality" idea. The show did keep me interested for the most part, besides some absurd, out of place reactions at times.

I was just hoping for something a bit more creative to come out of this, but it follows how the rest of the episode felt a bit generic.

This is self-inflicted, from pushing to far. Nothing from the plot, and the price he pays is driven home the very first time he does something. So, we should see something similar around episode 3.

XD I died after I read that. Deku's face made that picture for me. Anyways, the potential for theme exploration is there and it seems that the manga explores it so that's good. I do hope it doesn't continue to feel generic or "by the books" as someone else has stated. The potential is there for it.
