Episode 1: The End of the Beginning and the Beginning of the End

I think Loomy had the best combination of this being a mix of All you Need is Kill and Konosuba. I was trying to think of the concept when I was watching it but then Loomy's post reminded me of All you need is kill from where I've seen it before.

I like this though, mysterious in how he got there, and why he can go back to the past after he dies. Guessing it's going to be some sort of trial and error while learning more about the characters and seeing the best possible outcome.

Megumin what are you doing here? Couldn't help but hear the similarites. The characters are great so far though. And it was nice seeing both sides of the story from Felt to not Satella.

Looking forward to this, that ED of course it's great MYTH&ROID has been killing it since L.L.L

This show looks fun. Saved Sunday from the lack of anime. But, for me, Spring to Winter went from 6 watchables to 2 watchables per weekend. We'll see if anything other weekend anime sticks out by next weekend.

Since we're making random comparisons to this show by law, I'm gonna do one.

I think it's like Naruto taught the Sexy Technique to Kazuma who decided to use it to trick Tatsumi into talking in love with him because Gon paid him 40 quid to go to those succubi in Konosuba to have a great dream after the first dream wasn't a dream. However, ichigo caught wind of this and told Eren who got jelly because he wasn't in this random yaoi fanfic, and demanded to be involved. Then, not!Eren of that one vampire show that's so-totally-not!Attack on Titan appeared and decided to see who would whine the hardest about their yaoi partners, eventually causing Goku to arrive because he heard there was a challenge going on. Bitching about no one fighting, Superman showed up and kicked Goku's ads (again) before the Avengers came and taught the Boy Scout the fine art of alcohol, because Robert Downey Jr. Is the best Iron man since he basically plays himself if he were a scientist. Then, Souma, Erina, and Megumi get everyone super pregnant because they cook an amazing meal that makes everyone orgasm.

...Wait, what were we talking about?

EPISODE 1

What I liked:
-The 48 minutes this episode had makes me think that they actually care about the series they are animating just a little
-Satella and the MC have some chemistry and build off of one another
-The MC's overthetop personality. I'm glad he isn't just some nice guy who's always nervous around girls and has some semblance of wit and intellect
-The animation and art are both nice. Some people have some issues with the 3d cg, and I do too to some extent, but I like how they use it. It's used to make the city feel alive.
-How the show explains how this new world is tough to live in and everyone is just trying to survive.
-The pace... just the pace. The show balances out serious and humorous scenes and has a somewhat fast pace while also giving enough detail as to what's going on.

What I disliked:
-Satella's personality. It feels tsundere-esque, which is both uncreative and uninspired. She literally gets mad at the MC at the end of episode 1B for no reason.
-The overuse of 3d CG. I may have said that the CG is used correctly, but that doesn't mean that it isn't still a bother to the eye. It also breaks immersion
-The main character being consistently deus ex machina'd. He keeps "coming back to life", which makes him nothing more than a plot device rather than an actual character. Until this is explained, it's a major problem with the show
-Similarly, how the MC got into the world is also shady so we'll need so explanation for this or else the logic of the show falls apart
-The fact that he can't read the language, but he can somehow understand what people are saying is plot convenience. Either go all the way or keep everything the same. It's one of the things that I think GATE did right.
-I'm hoping for some kind of backstory for Satella. I can't mark the anime down right now as it is the first episode, but I do expect some kind of backstory. She is somehow broke, but has an insignia worth a lot of money in this world (also we need some kind of explanation for the currency of this world. It has some kind of consistency, but if the audience has no idea what the value of certain things are, then how are we supposed to the importance of it?)

That's about it. It's enjoyable, but has some problems of note. I'm looking forward to more though and hoping it gets better and we get some explanation to some of the details of the world.

Episode 1

I really wanted to like this. I really did. I was looking forward to it after reading the plot summary on livechart.me but it was so... boring.

I like the looping, I like the underlying dark tone, but oh man. Oh man.

She didn't get mad for no reason. Did you forget that Subaru went back in time again at the end? He went back to before the two of them ever met. I haven't read the manga so I have no idea why she introduced herself as "Satella" but she was clearly upset with that name at the end. In 1A you could even see her getting uncomfortable when she introduced herself with that name. At the end of 1B, there's this stranger calling out to her and calling her a name she doesn't like and everyone in the area looks worried when they hear that name. From her dialogue, it's pretty obvious "Satella" isn't her real name and its the name of someone else who she called the "jealous witch" or something like that.

Like I said, I don't know why she went with that name in the first place, but that meeting never happened now that Subaru went back in time so she never introduced herself as Satella. This is why she's upset.

Yes yes, thank you Seriously, the time travel concept just screamed All You Need is Kill to me. I personally really like that take on time travel.

And haha ya, not-Satella having the same voice actress as Megumin just furthers the Konosuba comparison

At least Subaru is genre savvy and figures stuff out right away. Kind of.
At the end of Part A and I love Puck already. The little green haired girl was cute too. Going off the synopsis I know it's going to take a dark turn in the second half.

The death scene and going back to the market made me think of The Butterfly Effect. The whole idea of knowing you've gone back in time and have memories of another life. Second try wasn't any better. Rewind.

I take it there is some sort of conflict going on based from Elsa's comments and how Felt + Rom reacted. That and with the ending and Subaru realizing he made a big mistake. I take it in the "current timeline" they hadn't pumped into each other yet?

Quite a bit to sit through for a non-binge watch, but I'm interested.

Nope, no season one but this is an adaptation of a good LN. Maybe that's where you recognize the name?

(I guess technically, this is season one...)
