All of the other characters play second fiddle to Usa-Mamo in the manga, so that might be why the animators decided to revive a little bit of the old show by upping the game for the Sailor Senshi.

Wow!

Just finished marathoning the 2nd season and went straight to this, blown away by how much better it looks and that they ditched the awful CG transformations... thank god.

I mean I didn't really have a problem with the designs before, though I think it's a definite improvement... mainly just talking the animation quality. Wonder if it'll stick.

Episode 2

Huh, I feel like this season has gotten better now.

We got introduction two new characters but pretty sure will find out more about them later. Action was kinda sloppy imo with the transformation scenes taking far too long. At least we do get an idea of what Usagi and the others will have to fight against this season so far.

(Disclaimer) I liked this episode.

But Sailor Moon is definitely showing its age.

-- 1/5th an episode dedicated to transformations.
-- Villain creates generic, faceless monsters like Rita Repulsa.
-- Limited, ineffective move sets (Mercury does Scan + Aqua Mist every battle to no effect. Fire, Lightning, and Love-Me Chain, regardless of effect, only result in Sailor Moon delivering the final blow with something sparkly. Etc.)
-- Evil team of foils/opposites (multi-colored heroes fighting a similar bunch of multi-colored villains)
-- Obvious or No Twists

And so on...
If you're going to do a reboot, I'd suggest eliminating the stuff that made it annoying and repetitive 20 years ago.

You have two decades to analyze and fix what was wrong... When DBZ did Kai, they eliminated the 10 minutes of powering up each episode, and the reused animations, and the constant barrages of quick punches/tiny ki blasts because it was pointless padding -- but Crystal hasn't done the same, and it hasn't done anything to bust the ghosts of its past. They're just very lazily redoing something that was done before, with better animation.

The thing they're redoing was good originally, so of course it'll be decent too, but they're like a cheating kid in school writing down every answer of the kids beside them. They're not thinking for themselves, so whether the answer is wrong or right, they're just hurriedly copying it all down. It's still cute, and nostalgic, and romantic, but it's often (too often) boring as well.

See heres the thing, I don't think they're going to do the transformations every episode. I think they did a full transformation for Chibimoon which was the first time for her. Plus since they speperated this chapter into two episodes so they're might of had some dead time to do full transforamtions.

Also if they started changing things then there would be no point in Crystal since they are redoing it to be closer to the manga than the original was. I think what some people fail to realize is that tropes in Sailor Moon are the original tropes (or at least one of them.) Sooo yeah.

The first episode of Season 3 was better than the last two arcs combined.

It's interesting that they seem to have adopted the Guardians' personalities from the 90's anime. Not sure how I feel about that because the loyalty to the manga was supposed to be the main thing that set this show apart from the old one. But, I can't deny that they're more likable this way.

Those personalities are present in the manga too. The first 2 arcs of Crystal just choose to mostly leave them out along with most of the comedy in favour of focusing on Usagi and Mamoru.

Pretty obvious who that is under the mask.

Yeah, the Death Busters are the main antagonists for this season. Honestly, I hope they extend the fight a bit as the action feels rather disappointing. That kiss though....

Episode 3

I`m happy that it`s the 3rd episode and they still doing a good job! I was afraid that they just wanted to grab our attention for the first two episodes, but no, the art and action looks so much better than the last two seasons.
Sailor Moon`s S saga it`s already amazing in the manga, so it`s quite impossible to be bad but I have to admit that they`re doing better than I expected!
Finally we had Hakura kissing Usagi!!! It was in the manga and I totally forget that`s going to happen until it actually happen!!! Thanks for the fanservice Naoko, thanks!

Episode 4

Dunno why but I got a slight Shigatsu feel from the episode because of Chibi-usa's friend going through a hard time and also the violin play coming from Michiru.

Venus and Neptune's appearance was quite welcoming though. I'm also really not a fan of the Death Busters, they don't seem like interesting antagonists at all so far.

Episode 4

Another great episode!!!
Uranus and Neptune finally introduced themselves, I was expecting for this moment since the third season had beginning!
Just like I said before, the old version, the manga and right know "S" saga still the best one for me!
There is some minor differences between manga and Crystal version, nothing really significant but it`s quite fun to watch and catch some differences... in manga Usagi was really angry with Mamochan because he didn`t invite her to the concert, also one person in audicente talked about Michiru`s violin, the person explained that she use a Stradivarius called Marine Cathedral.
Probably there`s more but I failed in catch it!

We're still working through the mooks.
Once we get more into the main antagonists they'll be more interesting.

This week's episode was one of the few times where I liked that the transformation scenes took some screen time:

Death Busters are still boring to watch and that tactic they used looks quite similar to the first season. Setsuna's appearance is a welcoming sight to see though

Episode 5

Great episode! Once again I`m here to tell that this season it`s the best Sailor`s Season EVER!!! Loving it!!
Finally Setsuna is back! She`s one of my favorite characters and of course I was waiting for her comeback! Can`t wait to see her transformation!
Also, finally we got to see Neptune and Uranus transforming, it was good but the song used in the previous one was better, I use to love that violin theme but well, nothing is perfect...
Also they changed the op and end. The new op it`s amazing, same song, another singer and I think that I like this one better. Also there`s some different things in the op animation that I also enjoyed. About the new end, I use to like the previous one more than this one...

That OP change took me by surprise. New singer, new animation, and I think I heard some different sounds playing. Just when I got used to the previous singer, they did this. Oh well. Also, the previous ED was 10x better. Just saying.

It was nice of Chibiusa to set up that moment for Usagi and Mamoru. Way better than her 90's counterpart.

Now Sailor Pluto has made her appearance in this arc.
