Taking place in the year 1937 on the eve of World War II, the story involves a mysterious spy training organization known as the "D Agency." The organization is established by Lieutenant Colonel Yuuki from the Imperial Japanese Army. His ideals lead him to recruit people beyond military academy graduates and personnel, while training them to become skilled agents in arts of manipulation. These agents would become a specialized team to conduct operations. One such antihero agent, under the name Jirou Gamou, goes on a harrowing mission to uncover secret documents titled "Black Notes," while battling forces from within and without his own ranks.

To be honest, this is the show I'm most interested this season. I concentrated in military history and geopolitics in college so I'm fascinated in how this show will portray Japan in 1937. Sort of a touchy subject considering this is during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War which is typically glossed over in Japanese history in the country.

This is what I think will be the most interesting part too. I'm especially interested in how they treat Nanking. There are still numeious high ranking Japaneses officials that deny it happened and a formal apology was not issued until 1995.

It's true as usually the first episodes don't have a countdown. But come the designated time, just reload and it will be there.

Episode 1

And it begins with some English. Background info is explained here as Sakuma and company went through hell to become spies, and only eight are left. The card game is not just a game, but a way to see if spies can gain each other's trust or not. Sakuma sure doesn't get what it means to be a spy. So the first mission is to infiltrate an American's house, and it turns out the MP was there three days ago, and with those facial reactions, Sakuma is in big trouble. That was a great way to setup the whole espionage games that go on, and whoever voices Gordon did an excellent job speaking English and not Engrish. And so, this episode ends on a cliffhanger where something big is about to go down. So far, it's off to a great start.

Episode 1

Nice episode, really enjoyed the time setting of this which is around World War II.

I haven't seen the live action movie version of this before but the episode is pretty true to its premise about spy organizations and what goes on behind the scenes. I really like what they are doing with the card game especially with the Joker symbolism as well. So far, we're not getting much characterization yet but I think this season will cover more of that later.

Yes, the espionage theme and drama flair of the show is really something to take interest in as well. Nice OP song too.

Episode 1

Gotta love that engrish!

So, the first episode seems to give off a nice and interesting start. Looking forward to the drama buildup and how it'll continue the themes that are set.

I wasn't really drawn in this episode. None of the characters really grabbed me, and the debates weren't that interesting. It feels like the show has yet to get started, so I will give it some time.

Very intersting show so far about Spies being well Spies and the internal poltics that goes on behind the scenes.

Our main char is very very naive to me so far. Curious to see how get out of the salutation he is in or maybe he has a hidden ally..
