Seeing that the preview for the next episode didn't show much on the guardians' end....I'm sensing that what they're being summoned to is a trap.

Episode 37

It's the calm before the storm as Rokuro is being sought by Chiaki through that love letter, but of course there's just no way he can fall in love with her, especially not when Benio and Mayura are spying on him. Then Ryogo and Haruka tie the knot, but doing it in front of the kids is not such a good idea. But then shit gets real in a big way when Kuranashi sets up a ritual using the captured exorcists to power it up, and that causes a piece of Narukami to float into the sky. So all of those battles were just distractions for this to happen as Kuranashi is carrying out his grand scheme to flood the real world with Kegares, or something like that.

Except he acts completely different from his anime counterpart, not to mention more bearable and sympathetic
even his backstory's different

Ok where do I start I wanted to give this anime a chance here is what went wrong for me.
1. Rokuro as lead he was to head strong maybe it was his ego just rubbed me wrong in the start.

So after the first 3 ep.. I saw very similar actions to Bleach blah, blahh creature comes to harm others
boy fights beast! blah, blah.
what i did find entertaining was when Benio's leader or mentor came to train them gave me a few good laughs.
overall i do not have a positive thing to say it was so-so. If i had to rate in stars i give it 3 stars*

In all 'fairness' a lot of animes follow a particular pattern. Especially the ones loaded with "fan service". I can name tons of anime that follow the same make and model as a few well mainstream ones, but It's down to the viewer to know what he/she likes and doesn't. That being said, and I'm not trashing your opinion, I've started it and it held my interest, so i intend to finish it.... Truth be told it has a lot of shit moments, but I've seen a lot worse.

I am stuck at episode 30.

It feels so dumb and boring and I feel they are turning in round without any improvement.

The Dragon Spot arc was awful. The current arc is a little better, but the Twin Stars still wind up playing second fiddle to the Twelve Guardians most of the time. Ever since the time skip, this has felt like it really wanted to be a spin-off focussing on the Twelve Guardians rather than a new season of Twin Star Exorcists.

Episode 38

To Kuranashi, this is all just a game as he is daring the exorcists to try and stop this tree from draining the magical power from the people dry and killing them in the process. The exorcists have two hours and they need to purify the bulb. So while the Guardians are engaged with trying to fight off the Basaras, Seigen and Mayura are after the bulb, while the Kinakomobile is active again evacuating people to shelters. Things just got out of hand there, and Kuranashi is just sick treating this as a game rather than a grand evil scheme. He sure made a mess of things.

Nice to see a lot of action this episode. Hopefully Mayura won't be stuck in the "can't power up because filler/not the canon story" junk that Rokuro and Benio have been slapped with.

Ya, hopefully Mayura gets a chance to shine alongside Reigan in the next episode, but this episode was a lot of fun

Oddly enough teaming her up with her father right now is laying the foundation for the power up she dose get in the manga. That is actually one of the things I have really liked about the Anime version, the studio knows what events are coming from the manga and they are using them to help mesh the filler story better with the rest of it. Things like Mayura's growth, Benio mastering her new legs and Rokugo developing the Golt Smash are things that happened off screen during the 2 year time skip in the manga. The anime however is touching on them in the filler to help tell thier story.

Episode 39

Mayura's mother Yukari makes her debut as Kuranashi's hostage as he came in to kill her uncle and take Yukari hostage. Seigen was too weak to use Byakko, but Mayura saves the day as she used Byakko to the fullest to save Yukari as well as destroy the bulb. That was quite a big way to turn the tide there as Mayura got stronger just like that. So it looks like this filler arc will end next week now that the bulb is no more and the city should be back to the ground.

I'd agree with you if they didn't nerf Resonance in comparison for the episode when Rokuro learned Golt Smash.
I feel like the anime simply has the characters use their abilities willy-nilly without really understanding them and how powerful each of them are. I keep seeing power levels being inconsistent in this show.

I think you're misunderstanding something. Kuranashi didn't kill Yukari's brother. It was Seigen and that happened long ago/has no relevance to her being held hostage by Kuranashi.

Episode 40

And Narukami is back safely to the ground thanks to the guardians and their ritual to slowly put the city back where it belongs all while Rokuro and Benio destroy the Kegare that was keeping it in the air during its recharging period. All seems well as the two are about to kiss, but that gets interrupted when the Guardians are in trouble. It turns out that it was was all part of Kurahashi's plan to drain the guardians of their power so that they would then be easy pickings for him. That guy sure is crafty there as he anticipated that the floating island would be back to the ground so that the Guardians would be sitting ducks with their powers drained, and those two are not the only ones who can stop him. Lots of thrills here, and now comes the final battle in this.
