We have 3 cats and...I don't think their gender played a role in anything I've done with my cats...they have names, food, water, litter...not sure what this even means.

For the record, our cats are named Cheerio, Figaro, and Terracotta...

I had a hermaphrodite cat once.

Did not realize it until the vet called to ask if I wanted her spayed or neutered - we got both done, just to be safe. Most fixed cat ever.

I had my indoor cat fixed as soon as he was old enough, so he wouldn't mark his territory all over my house, as some previous unneutered cats I had did. I don't think what gender he is really enters his mind, lol .

When we were growing up my sis had a pet cat called Topsy. I did point out that Topsy was a girl name and that she had a boy kitty. Sis just said she liked the name so Topsy it was. The name was fitting the cat was so dopey. He was also quite sweet. When he died the replacement also a boy cat was named a girl's name too. Since it's humans' propensity to name things it does not matter. Pets didn't really ask for a name and can easily exist happily without one.

To be honest, I see their point. Not having to remember to say a different word if your cat is a boy or a girl is a fair reason to do that. There's no real need to use them on Humans either. People will evolve the language in different ways and if they're not getting in the way of others then I have no complaint.

I wonder how the cats feel about that. God, I wish animals could talk to us sometimes... What if they're deeply offended by all this?
Not being serious here, btw. Just fyi.
