A little bit surprised that the warriors aren't wearing plate/mail armor. The zombies' primary attacks seems to be clawing and biting. Armor would be helpful.

Episode 1

I really liked it! Some strong first episodes this season, I hope everything stays consistent.

Definitely has AoT vibes, but I think it's different enough to stand on its own two feet. The characters seem pretty cool and I like the MC, he shares the same voice actor as Ushio so that's nice too! Very cool how he stopped the virus, he was fucking ready!

And man, when that train ran into the wall, fuck, talk about a shit storm!

And these things are like super zombies, they can even wield weapons. The suicide device is legit too.

The animation and character designs are awesome. The character designs have that old-school feel to it, it's really nice. It is good to see Wit busting out great visuals again. Seraph S2 had better visuals than the first season and I did think it looked good, but c'mon, they were nothing compared to AoT or this. They must have been focusing all their budget on this show and AoT S2, which is fine. Seraph probably didn't cost them too much in hindsight and it actually sold very well so they had to have made a good profit.

Anyways, looking forward to more! Amazon's PS4 player works good, I just don't like the rewind and fast forward situation...

They need all the metal they can get for their bigass trains. Also plate armor is heavy as fuck.

Really surprised by how good that was. Love the steampunk style.

Although the steam guns remind me a bit too much of Last Exile-

Only because Last Exile was also steampunky. And it was cool.

And OK, yes, it was a lot like Attack on Titan but so what? I don't consider the post-apocalyptic stronghold against the walking dead sociopolitical war drama to be a played-out genre.

Looks like they had an abundance of metal from the quick glance of the city. True though that plate is very heavy. Maybe plate armor for vulnerable parts (chest, arms, legs, head, etc.) and padded leather for the worst. Foot-soldiers probably couldn't afford it, but elites (I'm sure this show will have some elite squads) could use it.

I'm so glad the MC is smart (we'll see if he's Daniel Jackson smart ) and there's no extremely weak "please save me MC" female character so far. I came for the steampunk zombie apocalypse, I stay for the characters .

Are people really complaining that an anime by the same studio by the same creators is too similar to previous works?

What did they expect?

I don't really see many people complaining about this. Just people (myself included) using the opportunity to make fun of the obvious similarities between the shows. Kabaneri is in almost every way a clone of AoT, right down to the same staff working on both shows. I don't see that as a bad thing as long as the show is properly executed. This premiere episode was outstanding. The story may not be original, but no one can deny that the animation and OST were pretty high quality. It really helps that the main characters look pretty cool and aren't annoying (which is a complaint I've seen many people have about Eren).

Jokes like "wow Attack on Titan season 2 looks pretty good" or "this show is Attack on Trains" are unavoidable, but I don't see anyone trying to use jokes like that as insults.
