I'm really disappointed that this one is on Amazon Prime. I just don't want to subscribe to yet another company. CR, Funimation and Netflix are about as much as I want to do. Already dropped Hulu. I wouldn't mind having Prime some day because of how much I love to read but I'm just not ready to do that. I might wait until the last episode has come out then start a free trial and see whether or not I like it enough to warrant a subscription. Plus I'll get to watch the show so that's a win/win for me. I think I'll do that. I wouldn't mind a Attack On Titan clone right about now.

Chain mail would make more sense. Cheaper than full on plate armor and you don't have gap issues like with plate armor. Chain mail works really well against biting and slashing attacks. It's what divers often wear if they're diving with bitey sharks.

If this show were based on Europe, you bet they'd have chain mail. But it's clearly based on fuedal Japan, so they are keeping the aesthetics of that time period. So no mail or plate armor.

Episode 1

THAT WAS GREAT

HOLY SHIT

I love that MC doesn't look like a badass but then he goes and does. That thing he does.

Also that girl has blade shoes. Sold.

Japan had chain mail, but it is usually covered with cotton or silk for upper class buke and plain for lower class. While it is feudal period, I'm guessing it is late Tokugawa by the social dynamics and the obvious lambasting of the mostly worthless Bushi/Buke class. But with the Zombie creatures ability to rip through the metal armour on the train, I'm guessing they have increased strength so plate armour might not work. I'm a little more surprised they aren't using some sort of firearm though, considering that they would have been around during any point that this could take place.

Wow I had no idea a Attack on titan style anime was coming out this season :O
And by the same studio who made AOT! Egoist + Aimer + Horoyuki Sawano = OST of the season confirmed

I got one of my friends that's barely into anime (he's watched pokemon and attack on titan) to watch this episode by saying it was attack on titan season 2. I kinda expected him to drop it after 5 min when he noticed it wasn't aot, but after 20 min he said ''Liar, i saw no titans''

I underestimated him.

I'm not as up on Japanese feudal gear beyond what I see in anime.

They have guns. They're just steam powered and have sucky penetration.
That's why the mc was working on armor piercing guns.

I think it's a lot like The Empire of The Corspes / Done by Wit Studio. Lots of experiments going on.

Wow this a lot better then I thought. I assume strangling himself basically halted the infection since it might be on a strict time limit to reach the brain before dying off.

I'm thinking Attack on Zombie would be better. After all, the enemy is a part of the title, so it would be quite appropriate to replace the Titan part of the title with that.

Anyway, this show figures to be among the contenders for the best of the season and even though it's an Attack on Titan clone, it definitely has all the elements in place to potentially be a masterpiece. It's just brilliant all-around and I'm expecting big things to happen really soon.

I got quite excited when reading the description for this series. Now that I've seen the first episode though... :/

The art style looks incredible and all the animation was very nice to watch (with the exception of the train crash which looked like a train wreck to me, but not in the way they were intending). But other than that I unfortunately don't have any other positive things to say about the show. The writing was weak and there were too many important plot-holes for me to get behind it.

I'll watch episode 2 but they'll need to start weaving a strong story for me to get on board.

The hype is real with this one. Let us see if this will continue to live up to it.

Right now I am especially glad I have Amazon Prime.

That was really good-looking, well paced, has great characters, real drama, appropriate comic moment--I love how her shoe gets stuck and after all those amazing graceful fighting moves she has to tug in that perfectly normal awkward way, and that it's done after the danger is over instead of something that puts her in peril. I just hope the rest of the episode can live up to that.
