there's a series you want to watch that's not licensed by any legal streaming site, and the disk costs a few hundred / thousand dollars?
too bad!

Just how it is. Hard to see when you don't realize that you're not entitled to everything.

I can see how piracy could be a good thing when there's lack of availability, but I find it hard to believe that Japan has that problem when they don't have to deal with licensing or anything like that. So this law is definitely good for the anime industry.

Half the games I have bought I pirated first to see if they were worth a damn. I bought Rome 2 as a preorder and its an unplayable piece of shit, i should have pirated it and saved myself money.

meanwhile, Japan doesn't give two cents if the actual animators receive 4 bucks an hour and live in capsule hotels + ramen
the needs for the rich CEOs are obviously a higher priority.

about games, as long as it's available on amazon, etc. i just wish they lowered the import fee - it's absurdly and unnecessarily high.

There is no pros to it like some would have you believe. The main arguing point is that it promotes the anime, but let's fucking put our realism goggles on here: ain't no one going to go buy a copy of an anime that they already watched online.

I wouldn't be into anime at all without piracy. So crunchyroll would lose one subscription. Not a big difference because I don't like getting physical copies of stuff, but still, I'm sure there are people who are the same and do buy physical stuff.

Okay? I'm sure there are, too. But as I said three times now, it obviously ain't the majority.

For those that don't know, arguably one of the most beloved anime streaming sites, CR, actually started as a fansub streaming site.

Heck, an article just over 8 yrs. old called "Secrets Behind Crunchyroll" (from a site called Anti-Crunchyroll) that they "in 2007, Crunchyroll secured venture capital funding to the tune of $4 million through Venrock".

It's good to see that enforced. I used to pirate back when I didn't know any better or think about what I was doing. There really wasn't much to stop me.

I remember those days before CR went legit.

As for the topic itself....well...it's their right *shrugs* Honestly, is there any need for piracy sites? I mean, besides CR you got Funi's shite app, Daisuki, Hulu, Netflix, Crackle, Viewster...it's not like the old days anymore where the only anime one could see is thru fansub sites or torrents.

But this is in the US though...I don't know what streams outside of the country only that I do know CR does stream in some countries.

As for the effect on the anime industry? They didn't get anything for piracy anyway. This may force people to watch it legally. That or stop (but lets be real here... who would stop watching anime just due to 45 sec - 1.5 min of ads every 7.5 minutes). I get slightly sad watching the anime industry slowly die due to pirating, which makes them increase prices of anime to combat that... That makes less people buy it and all..
yeah don't endorse it, but using it?.. well..
with how anime is nearly so in another place its sad it would force piracy in restricted countries.

Well I do watch CR, but much CR don't have + few other things (some being movies but those good ones I buy if they are not too old to find)

Also Daisuki is quite good to use, gotta thank them!!! <3

My problem is that how Anime is Advertised in america, It's like the really good stuff like Gundam and such ( I feel sleepy atm xD) are not in peoples faces enough, like I could ask a random person on the street "You ever heard of Gundam?" and they probably wont even know what I'm talking about.

Plus on that Subject, it might be changing but Gundam DVD's are f*cking expensive.
But Also I don't Steal.
