Well it looks like this world is not the usual Japan , looks like the post melting of the artic poles.

Maybe when you are 15 , you are an adult in this world.

It was somewhat entertaining ....

There's no instructor or adult of any kind riding with them in case something goes wrong? Seems like it would be pretty easy to get lost or screw something up, like they did which is why they were late. Didn't expect the attack on their ship at the end. I wonder what will happen to them now.

Ok, this plot strains credibility, even granted it's in a show about teenage girl ship crews in a 21st+ century surface navy that's entirely made up of WW2 style ships.

And highscool girls driving tanks is any better?

And highschool girls surfing on water with weapons attached to them is any better?

And highschool kids managing a submarine with an advanced AI is any better?

And Highschool girls fighting for "love and justice" in ridiculous sailor outfits is any better?

And ... you get the point. This is an anime, throw common sense out of the window and enjoy the eventual trainwreck.

I don't think that they thought this who thing through. I mean giving the girls full access to a ship with live ammunition on their first day? I'd be more OK if they would have had a couple months of training or something especially sick bay.

One little correction. They are training on WWII era ships. We already saw one modern era ship that was being commanded by an instructor. The US Coast Guard does something similar with the Eagle. The Eagle is a sailing vessel used to train future Coast Guard officers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USCGC_Eagle_(WIX-327)

That being said, at first I was getting a Girls und Kancolle vibe. But, we then had the whole development at the end of the show.

Keep in mind that they had to pass tests for their jobs in order to enter the school.

Why is the instructor using live fire rounds and refusing to communicate and then reports that there is a mutiny happening. Also where is the other ship that is late, why are they going through the same thing.

The instructor attacked Harekaze with live ammo, refused to communicate, and reported them of mutiny Even with anime logic, I can't comprehend this. What an a**hole bitch.

You missed my point, which was that I can enjoy all that crap.

What's annoying is that some weird trainign plot or psychosis or whatever, an instructor did a series of potentially deadly attacks on her studends and then blamed them and declared them in mutiny when they defended themselves.

the scene makes it pretty clear the authorities don't think this is a fake out -- but why the hell would they believe her and not contact the ship?

Even as some kind of exercise or trick it just doesn't make any narrative sense.

EDIT:

Obviously there's a reason... but why does it need to be revealed in episode 1?
