Episode 2

The tension is high.

Looks like this is more than cute girls doing cute or cool things, which is nice. I do feel like the attack from their allies is just one big hoax to teach them something. The cliffhanger at the end makes me suspicious of that as well, but we will see.

Which isn't uncommon in the military. A great example is NBC training in which they expose you to tear gas with no advanced warning to let you know EXACTLY why you should have putting your gasmask on and fitting it properly down pat. The best way to motivate someone to be prepared against certain situations is to have had them experience it already.

Can I point out that Captain Akeno had a sudden urge of kirkism. Instead of sending a special rescue team she went out herself. Yeah they may not have a rescue unit since they're a high school fleet thus may not need one but still she is a captain and I know she wanted to help because that who she is, a good person, but I don't think it was wise of her to go out on her own in the middle of a sea battle. (correct me If I'm wrong plz I don't mind)

Any other LoveLivers watching this? If so, you must have recognized Hanayo's voice (Shikaco, Yurika Kubo) as Rin which is funny as her friend in LoveLive in Rin. She is totally using her Hanayo voice and the character's personality and even lines are straight out of LoveLive. Intentional?

Anyway, so far I'm enjoying this more than Kancolle.

So I wasn't just imagining that Hanayo was in the episode?!? I have not even begun to remember the names of these girls though.

I don't think this is some secret drill that will be explained away as being such when it concludes. If it was just that, there would've been no need to inform the headmaster that the Harekaze (Harukaze?) mutinied. Now with the escaped German sailor, it certainly suggests that something bigger is taking place. Seems like an inside job to prep for an invasion of Japan. I don't know why they'd start with taking over a training fleet, but it feels like it's leaning in the direction of a larger assault. Maybe they'll use the training fleet to infiltrate the Japanese harbors with their own soldiers? If that's the case, the distress call is certainly no "trap", but a genuine request for aid, unless her childhood friend has somehow become a part of the invasion force.

And yes, that caption is funny. Did not notice it while watching.

Not to mention telling the engineering area to basically give the ship more power when it was already at risk, and engineering complaining about it. Definitely some Star Trek vibes here.

Crazy? Yes. But lets face it. This is an anime. Its based on a parody world where things are just not like they are in RL. Maybe there was a convention of nations that made it so that naval ships could not be advanced past WWII technology? I duno. The theories are numerous. I think I should add that at the end of episode one there was the tell-tale sound of morse code. If that is what the ships are reduced to communicating with (even though they clearly have smart phones, ipads, and the like) then I can see why it is hard to communicate. It seems that no radio or modern communications is allowed between ships. Only flag signals? But then at the end of episode two they get that radio transmission from their own fleet ship. So confusing. Unless they reveal later that the transmissions were indeed morse code and they just added the voices for effect? Radio room girl maybe likes to deliver messages like that for effect?

Oi! It's crazy. It's backwards.
It's A WINNER!
I'm hooked! Can't wait to see what happens in episode 3.

Yes. I agree that there is a trek fan in the writer's circle somewhere and he is either being given the thumbs up or the subtle similarities are just not being caught by the rest. lol

love it!

She said some lines close to dareka tasukete. Her name is Rin here but it sounds like Hanayo is steering this ship!

Since they point out the purpose of the Blue Mermaids is to show the world the Japanese fleet is inherently not violent because the ships are crewed by women having a ship mutiny and attack other ships would cripple or even destroy that purpose. My guess is it's an inside job by hawkish higher ups in the military and government who want to see Japan rise as a military force again.

They lucky I wasn't captain of that ship, but else I would of been the next Walker from Spec Ops: The Line.

To be honest, if the show didn't go this direction I wouldn't be able to watch this anime. I have enough moe anime about ships, tanks, and planes. Time to add some drama into the scene.

There is definitely a degree of parody .

I love the engineer group , the Star Trek reference was funny in their version.

But there are some silly things here , the flag the cellphone .

If I remember it right ,that run away has a cap with an anchor on it.
