TAMPA — A teacher has been pulled out of the classroom at Monroe Middle School following parental outrage over a "privilege" form the teacher passed out to students.

The form — titled "How privileged are you?" — was given out to seventh- and eighth-graders during two of the teacher's Spanish classes Monday.

Race and sex are two common questions students fill out on forms every year. But what about disability status, gender and sexual orientation or religion?

Regina Stiles was among a group of parents who went to the school Tuesday to complain to principal Peter Megara about the teacher. Stiles said her daughter brought home the form to show her because "she didn't think it was right."

When Stiles' daughter came to the "disability" section of the form, she revealed that she has ADHD.

"She has ADHD and apparently the teacher said there are some kids in this class that have ADHD, and ADHD is a mental illness, and that's why she circled that. To me, ADHD is not a mental disability. It's something she has," said Stiles.

In another section, kids were asked to circle "cisgender," "transgender" or "genderqueer."

"She's 12. Some of these things should be taught at home," Stiles said.

The Hillsborough County School District confirmed that the teacher is Yoselis Ramos.

The students weren't required to turn in the forms. Ramos had said the goal was to teach them about diversity and inequality through literature the students had been reading.

Ramos is in her first year with the Hillsborough County School District and was relieved of teaching duties late Tuesday pending investigation.

"This is not a district form, this is a teacher-generated form and it was without principal consent and at the district level we do not collect that information," said district spokeswoman Tanya Arja.

The district did not say how long the investigation would take or what the literature was that led the teacher to produce the form. Stiles said Megara called and left a message with all of the parents whose children were given the form.

"was given out to seventh- and eighth-graders"

"gender and sexual orientation"

What? Like the majority of these kids are going to know that about themselves. Geez. A lot of them are still prepubescent.

Talk about going totally overboard with this. Kids don't even know themselves at that age, much less understand these adult themes and other sexual stuff. I get that the message about inequality and raising awareness to all of those crazy things that go on in society, but this is just not the right the way to approach it.

Actually it's far from unheard of for kids that age to know. Most of them are going through puberty. The main barrier to knowing, is not knowing that it is a possibility

Also please do not call anyone who is concerned an SJW, just for being concerned. I mean what's the draw back here?

Concerned?
draw back?
like many have stated before with things like this its that it makes a split and could make people more divided (more about race, genders etc..) and are going to make more problems, like gender studies, "equality", privilege to racism etc..

Makes a split? Even if we were to kid ourselves about racism and sexism, I don't think anyone thinks homophobia and transphobia are over. The best way to never fix this problems is by not talking about them.

Deserves all the reprimanding, shouldn't be pushing PC bullshit onto kids at that age, 13-14 year olds are already struggling enough, puberty is a bitch, they don't need to feel worse about themselves nor do they need to stir their confusions about sexuality and whatnot with this crap. Bad choice on behalf of the teacher to think that bringing that kind of content into the classroom is appropriate, that kind of "education" is just... well, insulting to the already horrid public school system

Just teach kids to be kind to everyone and to do their own personal best. Using the word 'privileged' is really detestable, it creates more hostility, resentment and self-pity than it's worth. They'll always be someone born under better circumstances than yourself. It's not their fault as much as it yours. Also, some stuff really shouldn't be considered as being a 'privilege' or not......

I like how a form about privilege asks nothing about a person's household monetary gain.

Not that I encourage this way of thinking, but whenever someone argues about privilege, I gotta think this should be one of the most direct questions to ask.
