I don't think the Pope tangled with Trump so much as pointed out that even the Pope thinks his wall crap is an awful idea. Trump then lost his mind as always.

As for this, Sanders was not invited by the Pope nor is he meeting the Pope. He was invited to a conference at a pontifical academy in Rome by its chancellor ( against the wishes of its president who did not want the event politicized ). The office of the Pope is currently distancing itself from the hub bub here. The Bishop that sent him the invite is known as a bit of a shit disturber in the Vatican.

Additionally, it looks like Sanders asked the Bishop for an invite, not that he was invited out of the blue. So Sander's claim he was invited by the Pope or Vatican is disingenuous at best. Dishonest at worst given he's timing his visit to right before the New York primary.

Either way, Sanders is triggering a diplomatic incident here. Not a good thing when you're running for president. >.>
