Correct, various accounts say anywhere from a dozen to 38 witnesses did nothing to help - they did not call the police, nor did they go out to help her or let her in when she banged on the door.

Well that sucks.

There would be less friendships and fighting.

Or like in a total ignore everyone sense?
Then there would probably be little to no progress, socially or technologically.

Social sense.

A world without friendship or love.
A world without compassion.
A world where those without a left to die.

As bad as the Kitty Genovese case is, I think there are worse things today. Back then it turned out that many of the witnesses who heard the disturbance assumed it was drunks arguing in the alley or some other noise and never realized a woman was being raped and murdered just outside their window.

Nowadays you just have to search Youtube for dozens of movies people have filmed with their cell phones of crimes being committed. Instead of attempting to stop the attack themselves, or if they are fearful using that phone to call for help or police, these individuals choose to film it and post it as "entertainment."

Here's a more recent case where people refused to get involved: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/victim-in-metro-slaying-stabbed-repeatedly-during-robbery-on-train/2015/07/07/8dd09132-249b-11e5-b72c-2b7d516e1e0e_story.html

Here's a scientific explanation for why no one reacted: http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/mind-guest-blog/why-nobody-intervened-in-the-july-4-metro-murder/

I'm pretty sure there are some CR users who prefer to live in a world where everyone kept to themselves.

We wouldn't evolve as creatures. Our business are connected by nature thus people will need normally always get into what they think will affect them. Our current social groups ties and regardless of all the conflicts are what make things move and improve.
