I'm sure the classic rock crowd knows about this story, but after several weeks of rumors, its been confirmed that Axl Rose will replace long time AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson who apparently had to leave the band from a doctors order. The reason? Johnson is apparently going deaf. Axl will join for the remaining dates of the tour, which are getting new dates after AC/DC was forced to cancel a number of concert dates last month.

Now I'm starting to wonder, is this going to mark the end of one of the most popular heavy metal bands of all time? Axl Rose is certainly going to be busy this year. Guns n' Roses are gearing up for a summer tour, so the new AC/DC dates are most likely not going to be until the fall at least. But Axl is also known for his long history of late starts and confrontations with fellow band members. Ok, Guns n' Roses did make some fine records. But Axl also has to be one of the most arrogant guys in the rock world if the stories are to be believed. Of course some fans may wonder how he will handle "Highway to Hell" or "Back in Black". Not to mention seeing him performing alongside guitar god Angus Young. But look, it seems like Brian Johnson is going to retire soon. True, AC/DC has hit hard times before, when original frontman Bon Scott died after a drunken binge. But that was almost 40 years ago. As much as I love AC/DC, I think its safe to say the band is coming to an end. On another thought, I'm sure this is going to result in jokes from fans wondering if Axl Rose is now a free agent who will front any aging rock band when they have problems on the road. Watch out, Van Halen or Aerosmith could be next.

Nope, Brian clarified the situation. Axl will, in fact, only be filling in for him during tours for now. Brian will still be the vocalist on the new studio CDs and is going through a series of operations to restore his hearing. He hopes to be back on the road sometime in the future.

Thank you. I can't imagine Axl actually being a permanent member. He has a great voice but it's just not the same. Brian is as close as we get to the original!

Yvw, I was as happy to hear it as you were. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Axl and G n' R but he's not Axl of AC/DC. It's like when Deep Purple tried replacing Ian Gillan with Joe Lynn Turner of Rainbow. I loved it but it just didn't seem like Purple to me (or many other fans).

Edit for new news (good news): http://411mania.com/music/brian-johnson-could-hear-again-thanks-to-new-technology/
