"It may be that our only insurance policy against extinction is to become a multi-planet, space-faring species," says Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
i read it in the news..made me twisted my face in a wry smile...it will be interesting if they (NASA) really make an unhabitable planet (lunar base/Mars) livable..just in case some horrible thing might happen and we have to leave the earth or die off (like im gona live that long to care about it )

how about taking good care of our planet instead? gona cost a big budget for this. where they collect the funds/money for this project???
any thoughts about this?

p.s. dont u think that quote is a little bit too much..is it not like the earth gona explore and we need to save our selves

I agree.
The human race is messing up Earth so much.

The worst thing that could ever happen to Mars
would be Earthlings to conquer and live there.

lol

ahh
Im such a pessimist.
lol
oh well.

I think that theory (humans going off living in another close by planet) may actually come to life one day.

of course, by the term "near future" I think its probably around another 100~150 years =) by that time, our tech would improve so much, and our living style would improve as well...sad none of us will likely be living that time. though it'd be nice =) "a trip to mars, costs 1000$" ...*imagine being able to travel to other planets as vacation*

i'd be nice, and i think its possible, and highly likely to happen some day; just not in our living period of time.

and by that time, the problems like funding will be long solved by those people; after all, its a plan that can change history, i'm pretty sure they can find a lot of people who is willing to fund them long as their success rate is high.

I have big doubts about this. So, I see. Some people think that it is easier to give up on our planet, and come up with the idea of making another planet 'fit' for us by trying to transform it. Mars. Yeah, governments would let them invest millions of dollars in that idea...

Humans would just pollute the new planet. Human beings have to acknowledge that their pollution caused problems

People are just trying to run away from their problems. If everyone buggered off to Mars, what would happen in another few hundred years? Mars would get polluted, and people will be buggering back to Earth. Humans have to do something about pollution.

Well... unfortunately the main cause of this problem is human population itself because as more humans there are the more we need raw materials for our daily needs and because there are huge demands to take care of humans then we would only take it from Earth I would say that the population should be controlled because if that is controlled then it would fall just like dominoes

Controlled Population > Less Resources Needed > Can stabilise the world > Resources can be use for another 100s of years > Move to another planet...

Thats I think should be properly done

Also, the meetings about envronmanetal protection is going harsh because America just does not want to participate because it would lose them business and as we all know America is capitalist their all businessmen and if there are limited supplies it would affect America and America being the foundations of some countries then those countries would fall too...

well then, maybe we shouldnt come up with all these medical discoveries... i mean its good and stuff to prolong life, i very well would like to live for a long time, but sometimes the natural way is best.. if we didnt have such a large population we probably wouldnt have so much trouble.. like global warming and deforestation and all that stuff... notice how back in the old days when technology is still scarce the earth was stull peaceful and unailed? i think, rather than ditch this planet after we kill it and move onto another, we save this one and learn from it so hopefully our future generations wont make the same mistake

Terraformation of planets is possible and is likely to happen in the future. However you might have noticed that space agencies are getting less and less funding these days without the big bad communists to beat. This won't be happening any time soon. The money required is far too great.

I think Sputnik was as new the space age was going to get. We don't need to rush into any epic space wars with arachnid shaped acid spewing aliens in my opinion.

Just want to point out one thing.

If they make it possible to live in a normally impossible place, why wouldn't they be able to do the same with Earth?

Its because terraforming planets is not actually real despite what earlier posts imply. Its just science fiction like talking monkeys and robots that pwn humanity
