I don't really think it matters.... Because like, some people use their actual picture, and some people just use a random picture. Though, sometimes people just bs and do whatever they want, as long as their contributions are good, who cares?

I really do not pay much attention to the profile pic, but don't think I make the association based on this. I have always known plenty of people who had avatars or characters of the opposite sex.

I always go by the G.I.R.L. (Guy In Real Life) rule online.

No girls on the internet
If they say they are a girl...
--under age, its an FBI agent.
--appropriate age, its a guy
If it is really a girl, she is treated as one of the guys aka gender equality though you might be less profane in the language and it bit nicer to her .

Actually I turned 56 a few weeks ago, so that no longer applies.

I mean, I just use my real picture because I think people like to see who they're talking/responding to. But usually, I don't really assume anything from people's profile pictures. They're obviously not an anime character in real life, so I wouldn't assume that their gender would be congruent to the gender of the character they use for their profile picture. If it's a real person in the picture, I assume it is a picture of themselves. If it wasn't, that'd be kinda weird . . .

In all seriousness that sounds like a real drag if it'll constantly happen.

Some women certainly enjoy it. I prefer attention for my skills. I'd rather have genuine buddies than a bunch of groveling knights.

to each her own, i would love to have a horde of groveling knights

My character's male, but I don't really care for gender. Just style of artwork.

I assume nothing. Gender online doesn't really matter. I DO tend to take older people more seriously though. (please don't hate me for it.)

So what do you think about people who have animals as their profile pic?
