I usually play something of a self-insert. I try to make them look like me - which can be hard, as I often prefer non-human characters. Right now I'm playing Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) as a dark elf vampire. I also try to keep my character's names lore-friendly. Paladins and berserkers are my usual classes, depending on the game. Basically, I try to make a character I would be happy to be stuck as if something like Log Horizon were to happen.

My friends don't think the same way.

Two of them (male) play as their ideal women. Their reasoning is that they'd prefer to stare at a woman's back. This kind of makes me uncomfortable. One of them has totally pretended to be female to get stuff from gullible male players. He's the reason I say girl is an acronym for "Guy In Real Life" in online games.

Another friend plays almost exclusively as joke characters. In ESO he has an orc he made to look like Shrek named "Get Ogre Here" as a class with a skill resembling Scorpion's chain fatality, and a khajiit (cat person) named "Sneaky Dunmer" (Dunmer being the dark elves). I kind of love his characters.

What about you? Do you put yourself in the world like me? Or do you play as someone else?

Generally speaking I prefer humans, then elves (assuming that it's fantasy MMO). I absolutely do prefer watching female ass to male ass so usually I tend to have more female toons. However... I'm not going to pretend that I'm not a male player. Also I do prefer proper armour on all my toons no matter what gender.

Class wise I like to try everything. Though I prefer DPS melee classes that can take some hits too but I really like some ranged classes too. For example my favourite classes in SWTOR are sniper and vigilance guardian.

I like magic classes, not for the dps but because it's simply more fun than swinging a sword.

I almost always play as a female character of the cute but tough variety. It's just the sort of character I like and what I have the most fun playing. If I play as a male, it's usually similar to myself but that character is pretty much always just an alt. Race is usually human or human like. Naming is pretty consistent across all games but I'll tweak it to be more lore friendly if needed as I tend to RP at least occasionally. Class is either a sword and boarder, big 2 handed weapon user or something quick and cool looking. I'm not against tanking on occasion but I tend to prefer DPS and pretty much never heal.

The one type of character I'd never make is a joke character. I just don't see the point and actually actively dislike when I'm playing an MMO and I come across a character that has a clear joke name and/or appearance.

In Ragnarok Online, I play as a Super Novice (the jack of all trades and the most versatile class), Royal Guard, Rogue and Rebellion (which is the most badass character in the game, capable of splashing opponents with the deadly Round Trip). Just watch what RO classes do on Youtube.

I used to always play male characters, which got to be a real problem considering I kept getting into relationships offline (from the games) with RL females I met on game. At first I started playing females due to my GFs playing males (so as to not be hit on), but after that if was mainly to keep from getting involved in any more relationships online. I prefer classes that can help others as well as self-sufficiently solo due to lack of sleep most night (Paladin, Warlock, Druid, Ranger/Tamer, etc) and lack of players on at 3-4am. Oh, and I prefer my characters being aesthetically pleasing to the eye and with a solid back story I can create for them for fanfics.

Fortunately for you, you could play as a magical girl character in Ragnarok Online, such as a Sorceress or Warlock.

I always seem to play as tanks, the most recent mmo was final fantasy 14 my main was a paladin (sword and shield) but i always started to use a dark knight (2-handed sword) i like tanks, i like to have a lot of health and defense. Although while i always use tank my fav classes are prop mages tho i hardly ever use them.

I prefer human characters or human like characters (elves, etc.). I usually like to play as melee classes in older target-tab/simpler combat games, but prefer range classes in action-combat orientated games. I am not a huge fan of playing tank or healer, straight DPS here. I never base a character off how I look, usually I go with a theme (i.e. my Runescape character is based of a revolutionary war era German/Hessian solder), since it looks cool and is pretty unique.

As for gender it completely depends on the game. For Runescape or SWTOR I play only male characters, but when I play TERA I basically only play females since: 1) character models and costumes for males aren't very good and 2) not going to lie you can make some pretty damn attractive and awesome female characters haha. Yeah, I get the OP I'd never roleplay as an opposite gender character because that would weird me out. Actually, I don't ever do actual roleplaying (pretending im my character in game) type of stuff so doesn't influence my decision.

Good amount of time in class based games I see what my friends are playing an complement their skills with my own class. Playing MMOs alone can get extremely boring.

Typically warlock/Necromancer. For race I'll either play Human or something like a dark elf.

I don't play MMO's any more though, I might return one day.

I will forever think of this when talking about a mage or magician https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7W8HVkQNLg

I usually go with a Rouge or Archer build, Dex all the way.
