Uhhh,,, um hmmm.... I like being a slightly below average looking dude, I don't want to be a girl. I'm also not entirely sure how to respond to the whole girlfriend thing. Either way. I'd rather be me as a male than me as a female.

Firstly I wouldn't ever want to become a female, I'm happy being a male. Now to answer your question, the whole point of a girlfriend to me is strong companionship with attraction. Simply becoming a female wouldn't solve this.

Why do you NEED a girlfriend? Girlfriend doesn't equal happiness.

It can even equal unhappiness if you do not find the right person.

Well doesn't becoming a girl means attraction to self so problem solved? Or is it because I have low self esteem?

Still don't have the companionship.

You'll find her don't worry buddy, I can't say the same for myself but I'm sure there's someone waiting for you in their life.

Why in the world do we want that? Need Gf/Bf for communication, someone to share with.. Not body part.. That later in deep relationship to express love for each other.

Also later on you might want kids, part of you and your love one.

Right well it occurs to me that attractive girl does not seem to need a guy for his attraction but rather security. It just seems that a guy wants a girl more for sexual needs while girl seems to be self sufficient. I'm looking at all the attractive females out there and thinking, why am I always the one going after them? How come no one ever comes after me, sure I am below average looking due to overweight, but when does people care about being an attractive male?

This. I don't really get the logic of the opening post. Having a girlfriend or boyfriend has more to do with companionship and connection with another person than with opportunities to just look at or touch girl parts or boy parts.

Lies!
If you need companionship just talk to bots. They're free and online 24/7 and never run out of conversation or get bored.

Um, trust me. Girls want guys for sexual needs. Since I don't know you I have no idea why girls aren't all over you. I partly suspect you are trolling us with this thread and its odd premise, but if not then I think you are going too far in breaking things down into parts ignoring that people and relationships are a combination of features, not all them based on looks, and also overlooking that there's a mix of sorts of relationships people want, sometimes at different times in their lives.

Indeed. But cuddles (and sex) are part of some companionships too.

To expand on my original answer and address something else that fred posted, companionship and sex with self are fine, and can be satisfying, and not everyone will need or want a lot of either with others. But they are different from relationships or even just sex with others. Maybe someday we can get enough of all that from a robot, but I don't think that day is here yet, and I think most people, in order to feel real satisfaction from a robot encounter need to believe it's really a human.
