I searched through the forum for a topic devoted to the DA series but I have yet to find one. Was curious if there are any other Dragon Age fans on this site.

Recently I've been replaying through Origins, and it's kicked up quite a bit of nostalgia for me. I know there was a lot of newcomers into the fandom with the release of Inquisition in 2014, but regardless of when/how you got into the series I'd love to meet my fellow Grey Wardens/Hawkes/Inquisitiors.

I think Origins was the only one I particularly liked. Two was.. well.. a few of the characters were nice? Inquisition.. I don't know, I never bothered finishing it. It just never really drew me in and it didn't help that it required that you install EA's crappy store.

I've been fairly disappointed (at best) with everything Bioware's done since Mass Effect 2, to be honest.

I agree (though I did enjoy ME3 as a whole, excluding the dreaded endings). Origins was the only game that fully immersed me into the story, and truly made me feel like I was in control. The tale of the Warden was better executed than that of Hawke or the Inquisitor.

I read one fan talk about DA2 and how it was supposed to resemble a Greek tragedy (in that the main hero did not have control over their own fate). Apparently David Gaider said that he drew some inspiration from the Greeks for DA2. Though that could be just a cover-up for what was essentially a fixed plot that you had little control over. I will say that DA2 had some really interesting characters, and some really witty dialogue.

No one even bothered coming up with any reason why DAI had such a linear plot. While the basic concept (the Fade seeping into Thedas) is an intriguing idea I found that it was so poorly handled. You were forced to play the hero, and the plot was lackluster (and really short). The game was filled to the brim with fluff and fetch-quests.

I have finished it twice though, albeit just to see if choice really did change the plot. And aside from the Mage/Templar decision at the start of the game I found that it didn't.

Funnily enough I recently saw a YouTube video which featured the creator of Mass Effect and one of BioWare's lead writers, who basically seemed to confirm that BioWare was losing what made them unique due to joining with EA.

It kind of sucks knowing that we'll probably not get another game like 'Origins' or 'Knights of the Old Republic' from them again.

I started with inquisition, and fell completely in love with the series. Played through Origins - Inquisition again after i was done with the first playthrough.

I hear a lot of people didnt like that everything was voiced and the dialog wheel, but i really enjoyed that.

I wish they had been more mod friendly though.

Man, I remember Origins. Leliana's song is one of the most ethereal things I've ever heard. I love every moment, from the story telling to the voice acting, to the actual sequence of events. I never played the later versions because of the negative reviews they got.

I've really enjoyed all 3 games, including 2. It definitely had some major problems but I enjoyed the story and the smaller scope of it being that it mostly just transpired in and around one city. If I had to pick a favourite overall, though, I'd probably have to stick with Origins.

Origins was ok, its attempt at a mature "grey" fantasy was ruined by the fact that they put in a third "oh everything is resolved perfectly, you don't need to made hard choices" option for every single big choice except the dwarf kingdom stuff. I still played it a lot though, I think I beat it 2 or 3 times.

2 was awful and I somehow deluded myself into thinking it was good, but between the horrible mangling of good old characters, boring new characters, and non-existent motivations for half the antagonists, it's just not a good game. I managed to beat it once and got partway through a different playthru when I realized nothing of importance was changing.

Inquistion was some of the least fun I've had playing a game in recent memory. The combat was literally whatever, same for the few characters I met along the way (except the Qunari dude, he seemed cool before I gave up), and the "exploration" was boring 90% of the time thanks to generic MMO quests. I can't recall a single quest that wasn't story-related that involved something other than "collect 35 bear butts" or "kill a billion bandits". Like there was one quest I expected to end with a dialogue tree involving some dwarves. Nope had to kill them because apparently designing unique quests with branching paths takes time from building a bunch of environments that are all forgettable and not much fun to explore.

At this point I've pretty much given up on Bioware as a company. Mass Effect 3 had some abysmal writing even prior to the ending, and now it seems like they've just bought into the awful "BIGGER IS BETTER" open world trend crap. I'm willing to bet that ME: Andromeda will have the exact same gameplay loop of DAI: level-sectioned planets you visit and explore a bunch of bland environments with minimal story of interest or value.

yes i'm salty

I'm a pretty big Dragon Age fan...that is Dragon Age Origins. When it comes to Dragon Age 2 it was 'okay'. It was average, nothing really special. Dragon Age Inquisition just didn't feel right to me, but I can't pinpoint why.

Dragon Age Origins was a joy from beginning to end, though. It was an amazing game.

I'm a fan of the series overall, but it never got as good as Origins for me. I've completed that game literally about 20 times..... I struggled to get through Inquisition twice. Let's not talk about DA2.

Iam a massive Dragon age fan. Origins is one of my fave games ever. Loved it.
Took me a long time to give part 2 a go. Whilst initially very disappointed, its still a pretty good game.
I absolutely LOVED inquisition! One of my favourite games ever for sure. I spent like 200 hours on it.
Iam currently playing the wicher 3 and i dont like it as much as i liked inquisition.

Loved Origins, Liked DA2 but sadly it was unfinished and rushed out the door by EA when it needed a year more development. Loved Inquisition.
I also lopve the DLC for all the games except Mark Of the Assasin (fuck felicia day she ruins almost everything)
I'm a completionist so my second time through Inquisiton I completed everything every codex every little hidden Bioware secret everything. I took so long that game has so much too it and the DLCS were awesome.

I played origins probably 10+ times, such a good game.

DA2 sucked.

Inquisition is sitting on my desktop still haven't played it.

DA2 ducked.

You should play it. It's sort of a cross between 1 and 2 in which you can still hack n slash but you still use the tactics mode also.

Loved DA: Origins. Definitely my favorite of the 3.

I hated DA 2. Extremely lackluster.

I felt that DA: Inquisition was a little better than DA 2 but still nowhere near as enjoyable as Origins. Felt too much like a single-player "MMORPG" , if that makes any sense. Too much padding and boring fetch quests, I dreaded the war table, and I still dislike the conversation wheel to this day. The dialogue choices are boiled down to a couple of vague words or so and a picture of the general mood behind that choice. I feel that's just not enough. If they made the player character silent again and brought back the original dialogue system from Origins, I would soooooo praise them for that. Linear story, disappointing villain, too many inconsequential choices, and I'm still mad that I tried in all my power to get one person to become Divine but another did instead. Dunno what I did wrong, but whatever. I can always fix that with the new tapestry system...

I have a lot more to say about DA:I but this sums up my feelings. I also have a lot more to say about it since it's the most recent DA game I played, after all.

One thing I can still praise in all 3 games, however, are the characters and character writing. BioWare's great at making interesting characters you'd likely care about.

I had a virtual crush on Leliana for the longest time, used her on all my wallpapers and just didn't feel right romancing anyone else on my later playthroughs, always ended up talking to her most in the end. The deepness of her backstory and the Orlesian culture just damn. Also I just loved how the game really made you feel like a hero, a group of people on a sacrificial journey to save Thedas. It just felt to believable and totally pulled me in for hundreds of hours. Combat kept me entertained most of the time though I did find myself avoiding small fry as much as possible.

DA 2 was okay and Inqusition I never finished since with open world games I always need to finish everything and a lot of the stuff was just boring. Might do it at some point though, just to get to the end.
