So why focus in small scale?

im sorry but i would not flash around a weapon just to intimidate someone if i wasnt prepared to use it.

im not saying go for the 360noscopeheadshot but s/he should keep in mind that a firearm is deadly and it can escalate very quickly.

I got a dog to worn me and scare them, a katana to slash and stab them, and a gun to shoot them.

I'm well prepared.

My neighbors apartment was broken into yesterday, fortunately he was out with his buddies during the time so no one was hurt. Got me thinkin on what I would do if someone broke into my place. Personally, since I don't have any home security, if the guy was sneaky enough he'd probably be able to break in and take all my shit (or worse) without me ever waking up.

May 1, 2013, my home was burglarized while I was at work. The burglar broke in by bending and breaking a aluminum storm door, then breaking a 14x8.5 inch pane of glass in the basement door and crawling through it. They didn't bother with trying to unlock it at all. Once they were in my basement they tore the place up and apparently did not find anything that appealed to them. So they took an axe out of my camping gear which was stored down there and cut their way through the interior basement door into the main upstairs of the house. They tore the whole place up, every drawer had been pulled out of the furniture and dumped on the floor, every cushion and mattress flipped over and any small box or tin opened or smashed open. They took what they were able to carry away in the case for my banjo. Mostly small expensive stuff like jewelry, my Kindle, a digital camera, and some guns that were out of the safe at the time. They walked out the front door with my stuff and went down to the corner 7-11 where they sold some of it in the parking lot.

The Kindle turned up quickly because Amazon was able to track the new user's account once they got a subpoena from the police. Two of the guns have turned up as well both during search warrants being served as part of other cases. Those are the only belongings so far that have been retrieved by police and they've turned up in 3 different jurisdictions. I'm on hold waiting for those cases to be tried so I can get my property back since it has to be used at trial as evidence. Additionally they've got a suspect who's been fingered for the case, but Maryland is waiting for him to be extradited from North Carolina. According to the witness the burglar actually was coming back with a car to take a lot more of my stuff but when he arrived the police were there because I'd gotten home from work and discovered the break in.

My place had a lot of security - in fact the police were surprised because I had a lot of physical security in place to prevent this sort of thing. However afterward, my landlord installed security doors in place of the storm doors, and installed a security system with cameras. The police said if they'd had camera footage they thought they could have caught the guys within a week.

Also one of the items they stole was a ring of spare keys I had in my junk drawer - someone used one of those keys to break into my car and try to steal it twice after the burglary - once about 3 months later and again about 6 months later.

Most home invasions are done when no one is home. Assuming your invader didn't do his homework and just randomly decided to break in, it's not often they would do anything. On the off chance you do encounter a hostile burgler and providing he doesn't have a gun, call the police when given the chance and grab a weapon yourself. Most will run off even if they're armed with something but you can never be too careful. No need to try and go ham on the guy, just get them out of the house.

Or you could do what we used to do in the hood and teach them a lesson. Up to you.

I used to live in a bad neighborhood. I just had a T-ball bat for protection. I still have it but unlikely to ever need it where I'm at now.

We have a dozen cameras with a decent resolution and frame-rate that also have some decent night-vision. If those aren't a deterrent enough with the the cars still in the driveway I must consider them a deadly threat. Nearby the only personal defense I would have would be a knife, a sword, and a rifle (which I would use as a blunt weapon). None of those are likely useful unless I wait in ambush.

I'm a light sleeper so the break in would definitely wake me. I can barricade quickly with some light but sturdy chairs. This would likely stall long enough for police to arrive. As added protection I could even wear my workout vest which includes 40 removable sandbags that are about 2 inches thick and 3 inches wide.
