I've always wonder something about licensing or licensing companies. How we know which animes Crunchyroll will likely or not likely acquire based off of licensing? (If the question might sound confusing I apologize.)

As far as I know when Sentai licenses the anime it's either Hulu exclusive or it might be shared streaming. There's others like Pony Canyon, Madman Ent., Aniplex etc. I read in another forum category somebody says whatever Pony Canyon licenses CR has a good chance getting it. Can someone clear this up for me and help me understand how this all works? Thanks.

I actually have a related question on a different subject. Since CR had previous Magi animes is there a decent chance they will get Magi: Sinbad no Bouken which has just started this season?

Here's my limited, and possibly wrong understanding of the situation. It's like an auction where each company has a limited budget so have to pick and choose from the seasonal lineup what shows they want to stream. In CR's case where they stream worldwide, they also have to negotiate the territories they're allowed to stream in. If they helped in the production of the anime, chances are they'll get it. If they aired previous seasons, chances are they'll get it, although it's not unheard of that they haven't. As for if anime companies have an affinity towards one streaming site or another, that I don't know.

You basically answered your own question, but to put it in simpler terms, anything that Netflix, Amazon Prime, and FUNimation licenses is highly unlikely to be on CR. There are some exceptions, but for the most part those shows will not be on CR due to CR being in direct competition with them. Sentai, Aniplex of America, and Pony Canyon typically let CR simulcast shows they license, so there is a high likelihood a show picked up by one of them will be on CR.

That fits in with exactly what Sonic720 mentioned. Sinbad has been announced as a Netflix exclusive which means it won't be showing up anywhere else for quite some time.
