Yes, doing something else while say writing, or grinding something in a game makes things less of a pain for me personally.

While I can't do multiple things while listening to others, I can be doing something while listening. I use to read in class while still listening to what was being said. I can't filter noise very well. I can tune out noise completely, but only paying attention to one source of noise is difficult. While working, I hear all the different conversations that might be around me, even if they are low volume and several meters away. I can't focus on what I am doing unless I turn off all sensory input outside of the range of what I'm focusing on, or at least turning it down to the point that someone would have to be rather extreme to get my attention. Since, that makes people think I am ignoring them, I only do that very rarely.
