Well with volume 20 of Btooom! dropping and the end of the series being announced a promise of a big announcement on May 9th 2016 has fans excited in anticipation. The first anime covered volumes 1-9 so we now have 11 volumes of new material. Anime season 2? A movie? OVAs? What do you think?

I doubt season 2 to be honest. It's more likely the manga ending at this rate.

They've (the creator and publishers) actually already announced the manga ending a few months back. They're claiming this to be an important new announcement so there's still hope. While I'm hoping for season 2 I highly admit it's entirely in the realm of possibility that due to the success of the current "trapped in a videogame" anime and manga flux we could get anything from a recap movie to a live-action adaption to even an OVA to cap it all off but we'll see. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them create a new OVA to tie up the series and license it worldwide as a "complete collection" DVD set like many do these days.

I'd like it to be another season, or something to wash out that awfully unsatisfying taste that ending left, but I'm honestly not holding my breath. I'll keep my expectations low, and be pleasantly surprised by good news.

I don't remember that announcement. I remember one about the series entering its final arc nearly 2 years ago though.

Btooom! getting another season at this time frame would feel a bit unrealistic considering the time gap but who knows, anything could happen. I still suspect the manga ending or at best some OVA adaptations.

good god... please no.

Btooom sold abysmally bad (for good reason) and this is Madhouse we are talking about. A second season has almost zero chance of happening.

Normally, I'd fully agree with you about the time-frame issue, but with all the streamers (Netflix, Funi, Crunchy, Hulu) throwing their $$$ into new exclusive programming (such as the announcement of 2 new seasons of FLCL coming) I won't rule anything out.

Yes, 2 years ago the 'final arc' started in the manga, LOL. I guess it's still going (yes, I read it every time a new tank comes out). It is definitely close the finishing on the island as there aren't many people left (oops, is that a spoiler?) but he adds side stories and back stories and there could still be some repercussions if/when they make it back home.

As for the announcement I don't think it's the end of the manga. While that is probably coming they never pre-announce that, they just say, "And BTW the June 23rd issue of Bunch magazine, out May 23rd, will contain the final chapter of BTOOOM! and the final volume will be out in July." Live action or game adaptation maybe...

I really enjoyed the anime but it sold like absolute dirt. The manga got a good boost, about doubled and has held it to this day so it wasn't a total waste but another season of anime is unlikely... unless there is a live-action movie coming in which case the anime could advertise the live action like has happened with other series lately. That's the last, best hope for more anime.

Live action would be tough to do though. It'd be pretty edgy even for Japan in live action.

I agree with @neugenx. it has to be the announcement for a second season as the manga ending was announce a while back. I don't think they would use the 20th volume just to announce a Pachinko machine. so yeah I say it's a second season.

There are other things it could be other than an anime TV series or a pachinko machine (movie, OVA, live action series, spin-off manga, etc.).

If it did get a second series, it would probably set the record as the lowest selling standard length anime to get a sequel. (I had to add "standard length" as Diabolik Lovers actually sold worse, but got a sequel, which sold far better, although still not great).
