255 terabit per sec? Who wants it?
Posted 4/28/16
While I was trying to figure out what I would to with 9.5 trillion dollars, I came across this almost 2 year old article. They already have fiber optics that can push 255tbps down 1 kilometer (just short of a mile).

http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/192929-255tbps-worlds-fastest-network-could-carry-all-the-internet-traffic-single-fiber

The first thought was "I want that networked in my city to the doorstep," Would I be crazy to want this? Or would I thinking ahead?

I don't want it way too much wasted bandwidth. I'd rather have a death star built out of the moon.

Helluva lot better than my crappy 2 mbps. Bit overkill, though.

You could definitely get that with LESS than $9.5 trillion.

Maybe, but I want to know they're worth that much.

You can go to Japan, buy a warehouse, invite all the cutie pies, buy a bunch of pillows, a bubble maker, maybe a smoke machine, and truckloads of panties with bunnytails and cat tails. Maybe hire a few videographers. Have a platform where you can place a nice couch big enough to house the tired ones, while you watch the mega pillowfight.

Boom. Done.

Budget: $8.8 million. USD.

That's actually amazing, sounds awesome. Even if I had 9.5 trillion dollars, I probably wouldn't waste it all on that since it's be a bit overkill. Need to buy myself an actually decent computer first, 'cause this one sucks.

So it's too much now, what about 10 years down the road, or 30 years? You don't have to update the network for a long time, just maintain it. Everything else will catch up.

It could force computer and games to evolve to use it. VRMMOs in Anime always influences all five senses, thats a lot of information to process and transfer with near lifelike visuals.

It could be done for less than 9.5 trillion.

With $9.5 trillion? Sounds like a plan of course, after solving world hunger.

Both of those wouldn't need that much money.

It would mean nothing if the rest of the infrastructure was not capable of pushing information to you at that speed.

You would have to rewire most of the nation.
