Am I getting anything out of it? I have no need for family or friend relationships unless its beneficial to me.

Here I go again peeps;

Your mother contacts you out of nowhere and wants to see you. You have not seen your mother in five whole years due to a terrible argument that happened between you and her. When she visits you, you ask her why she contacts you. She says because she wants to make up and become a family again. But your mother would never call you and she made sure of that. But out of nowhere she calls. What do you do? Do you let her back into your life or turn her away?

Assuming you're letting us in on every private detail of your life, pick up the phone! What grudge is worth holding?

This situation happened to me also - though we were only estranged for a year, not five. My little sister visited me at work, as she did whenever she could at the time, and said our family was nearby, and if they could visit me at work. I said yes because I was planning on giving her a piece of my mind on my own turf. (was kicked out at nineteen for asking for tuition money I was promised, then lived off my minimum wage job.. she really screwed up my life plan). Turns out there were also extended relatives I hadn't seen in years... And also a 2 month old sister I didn't know existed. She basically pretended none of it ever happened and acted like I walked out on all my siblings.... =/ So I keep in contact now because I want to see my younger siblings and keep gross misinformation from spreading, but I keep it as brief and impersonal as I can.

If I had to do it all over again under your conditions instead of it sprung on me like that, I would have said no. Sucks because she would have kept my baby sister a secret forever, but if she didn't exist I would want nothing to do with my mother. She's kinda crazy and very manipulative.
