I'll add: Their persist, blatant and decades long campaign of revisionist history about all the absolutely horrifying shit Imperial Japan did.

Yeah North America really ain't got a leg to stand on when it comes to revisionist history bashing mate. My high school history course failed to cover the horrid things the Europeans did to my people .

Yeah that's why most of the Japanese born in North America and exposed to our diet tend to be both taller and heavier.

That I can agree with you on that. The only thing I remember in High school history from that was the British use disease blankets to kill most of them. French that only thing I remember was how they used the Natives as allies during war. Can't really remember the bad from the French.

1. Denial of war crimes. Yeah, every country has some war crimes they want to cover up but most will admit it if pressed. Japan has a policy of not quite denying it ever happened. But I also understand honoring people that died for you country, even if they were 'wrong'. I know parts of my country still honor the dead of the Confederate States of America. While they may have died for a cause we find abhorrent today they did do it with a patriotic fervor and belief and it has become part of our country's heritage, for better or for worse.

2. Feminism isn't really a thing in Japan. Women are not really quite as good as men and a lot of jobs are closed off to them. Social expectations are very traditional as well.

3. You are expected to work long hours. If you start working you become your job. You work until you burn out.

4. And if you don't you are a loser slacker that is ruining the country.

5. That whole idol culture stuff. I kinda get it but at the same time its kind of annoying and creepy.

6. Whaling. I think whales and dolphins are intelligent animals and while maybe not as smart as humans should be considered another intelligent species we share the planet with.

7. Everything in their navy is a destroyer. That's a cool new carrier they launched. Oh, wait. It's actually a 'destroyer'. Get your naming things right!

Well, the rampant saturation of KFC and McDonald's in the last half of the twentieth century HAS put more protein and calcium in the average young Japanese diet, and the effects have been.....noted on the last two generations of school kids.

If you DON'T drink go-stinking with the guys after work a minimum of three (week)nights a week, you're a selfish wuss who can't be trusted to put his job ahead of his family like a good ol' joe!

Personally I always thought that was a mental conditioning sort of thing left over from WWII. I mean they built ships like the Yamato. The biggest thing to ever ply the waters and carried guns that made a mockery of every other pea shooter carried by every other ship. But she and the relativity powerful ships of the IJN was beaten by the horde of inferior ships (i,e destroyers if you will ) that was the USN .

Gladly: Most women who pursue a career over the idea of giving up a career for marriage are (or were, in previous generations) considered, quote, "selfish".

Great people.

But the strict values cause problems.

Why would that be selfish? Also, would this be totally unexpected, due to the fact that Japans population is well....shrinking? Do you have other data?
