In September 2015, the Center for Immigration Studies published a landmark study of immigration and welfare use, showing that 51 percent of immigrant-headed households used at least one federal welfare program — cash, food, housing, or medical care — compared to 30 percent of native households. Following similar methodology, this new study examines the dollar cost of that welfare use.

-The average household headed by an immigrant (legal or illegal) costs taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare benefits, which is 41 percent higher than the $4,431 received by the average native household.

-The average immigrant household consumes 33 percent more cash welfare, 57 percent more food assistance, and 44 percent more Medicaid dollars than the average native household. Housing costs are about the same for both groups.

-At $8,251, households headed by immigrants from Central America and Mexico have the highest welfare costs of any sending region — 86 percent higher than the costs of native households.

-Illegal immigrant households cost an average of $5,692 (driven largely by the presence of U.S.-born children), while legal immigrant households cost $6,378.

-The greater consumption of welfare dollars by immigrants can be explained in large part by their lower level of education and larger number of children compared to natives. Over 24 percent of immigrant households are headed by a high school dropout, compared to just 8 percent of native households. In addition, 13 percent of immigrant households have three or more children, vs. just 6 percent of native households.

Add to that the $1.3 billion the president has budgeted for unaccompanied, illegal minors. The total of about $17,613 per minor is more than the average retiree gets from the Social Security Administration through SS benefits, which they paid into throughout the entirety of their working lives.

It's a race to the bottom.

Disgusting.

We should do everything we can to help legal immigrants adapt to and begin contributing towards society, and yet it seems that there are so many more we could be helping if only we enforced the laws we already had, and cease this unlawful and unwise coddling of the illegal population.

Don't have a job or money? Come to the US illegally and collect welfare.

But if you have an advance degree, go home, you might vote Republican.

I'm going to guess this "study" is from an "independent" "think tank" with questionable motivations written by someone who is probably an a asshole using intentionally flawed methodology to get the result they want.

Lets see.....hmmm, yep! Shocking.

Keep screaming into the wind, guys.

CIS's stated goal is to reduce immigration so I'm going to assume any study they publish will support that. Their end notes also cite themselves....a lot. I have a hard time with papers that use themselves as their own experts. Kinda like mcdonalds doing a study about how healthy their food is and citing themselves as a nutritional expert. Just my 2 cents.

Apologies if the link doesn't work. I'm kind of new at this.

Anyway, the general point of this article is that CIS' research was incredibly biased, and failed to account for a variety of factors or flat out ignored them. I have a hard time taking the point of this "study" seriously if that's the best this group can do.

There's no proof, but what he said is generally true of pretty much any 'scientific study.'

Well, right away this is basically a re-explanation of the original study trying to correct for the flaws of that study. Written by a guy that got booted out of the Heritage Foundation for falsifying studies.

The original study did not control for household size and this rehash doesn't control for duration of welfare use nor control for income levels. Using "household" instead of individuals is being intentionally shit smudging. The data set being drawn upon here does provide usage information by individual. There's no need to quantify it under a nebulously defined "household".

Everything in this study is also just an estimate based on his methodology, not hard data. The monetary value is an estimate. The % of illegal immigrants is an estimate. The study also does not include Social Security or Medicare. Which, if you include immigrant contributions to SS and Medicare, outweighs their usage of welfare programs and shows them as a net positive for the US economy ( Per OECD analysis. ). With little difference in net positive contribution from native households ( native households contribute a net positive only 3.1% higher than immigrant households ).

And thus is the trick. Immigrants do use more of specific social programs. Specifically, they do use more UI, social assistance and family benefits. But, Americans use more SS, Medicare and housing subsidies. So if you quantify by your own terms ( "households" ) instead of individuals and exclude SS and Medicare then yes, you can come up with the result you want.

Which is rawr, immigrant bad stealing our money.

los Angeles got it bad we close to the border

1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3's of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

10. In L.A.County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in L.A.County). I may vote trump
