Final Note(s)

And that's a wrap! This year's tourney was quite the roller coaster. Who would have predicted a show that made it out of the Revenge of the Fallen round would come back and win it all? This was the fourth year in a row that a Crunchyroll title faced off against a Funimation one. But for the first time ever, the Funimation title actually won! Congratulations to Snow White with the Red Hair for claiming the title Best of 2015! I want to take the time to thank my admins for helping me throughout the tourney - cay032692, bobland, and Swaggercandy. Special thanks to the Picasso of our generation, pongo903, for making a few glorious graphics for the tourney. I'd also like to thank everyone that participated and supported their favorite shows. I know there was a lot of heartbreak throughout the tourney but we all knew only one anime could win. And to those that stuck around even after their favorite show was eliminated, I thank you.

This was my 2nd year running this thing. Will I be back next year? We'll see. I just want to say that I did my best to try and please as many people as I could but you can't please everyone, ya know? I increased the numbers of entrants this year, which I still think was a good move. Next time that number may even be increased more. In the end, I hope you all enjoyed the tournament and make sure to look forward to the next tournament that pops up in the Anime forums! And lastly, if you don't like what you see...you can always run your own tournament. ShawnHacaga out!

Yup, it's back...
Everyone welcome to the...

2015★Battle!

Crunchyroll, I'm back. Don't look so disappointed. I know you all love me...probably. I hope so at least. Anyways, as you can already tell, I have returned again this year to bring you the 2015★Battle! Exciting stuff, I know. A little late this year but hey, good things come to those that wait.

You guys should all know me by now. Why wouldn't you? But for those of you who don't, I am ShawnHacaga. I am a connoisseur of fine anime. I've seen over 2000 anime series, movies, OVAs, etc. Crazy, right? I always do my best to highlight the positives of any anime I've seen, even if it's "trash". I am also a self-proclaimed renowned personality on CR, writing highly acclaimed stories and votes in the ever popular contests on the anime forums. Well, I used to at least. Tough times. I like to talk with people with similar interests on social media and like writing about random things on my blog. I am also a part of a podcast with a crazy bunch of users from Crunchyroll. We're not very good, at all. The graphics for the podcast though are sexy (I totally make most of them.)

Alright, that's enough shameless promotion. If you're new to the whole forum tourney/contest deal, welcome! If you're a veteran, get HYPED! I know a lot of you have been looking forward to this 2015★Battle and I hope you all have tons of fun. Of course, this is a lot of work for just one man. That is why I'll have a group of capable individuals helping me out throughout the tourney - my tourney admins if you will. I would like to thank them in advance - cay032692, swaggercandy, and bobland.

Links to the previous battles can be found here - 2014★BATTLE, 2013★BATTLE, 2012★BATTLE.

With all of that being said, enjoy your time here and may the best anime win!

2015 Show Spotlight

Snow White with the Red Hair

Synopsis (Taken from MAL)

Although her name means "snow white," Shirayuki is a cheerful, red-haired girl living in the country of Tanbarun who works diligently as an apothecary at her herbal shop. Her life changes drastically when she is noticed by the silly prince of Tanbarun, Prince Raji, who then tries to force her to become his concubine. Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her long red hair and escapes into the forest, where she is rescued from Raji by Zen Wistalia, the second prince of a neighboring country, and his two aides. Hoping to repay her debt to the trio someday, Shirayuki sets her sights on pursuing a career as the court herbalist in Zen's country, Clarines.

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime depicts Shirayuki's journey toward a new life at the royal palace of Clarines, as well as Zen's endeavor to become a prince worthy of his title. As loyal friendships are forged and deadly enemies formed, Shirayuki and Zen slowly learn to support each other as they walk their own paths.

You can watch the entire season on Funimation here!

Voter Spotlight

"Funny enough, this series wasn't originally on my watch list for the season that it came out in. It wasn't until I saw some gifs from episode 2 of Shirayuki cleverly fighting off Mihaya that I decided to give the series a watch. And boy! Did this series quickly become one of my favorite animes to watch. Not only are all the characters enjoyable to watch--with amazing animation to boot--but they all have their own motivations and reasons for doing what they do."

- EverFire95

"Shirayuki is a dynamic female lead that truly energizes the shoujo. She is not simply the push-around to fall in love with the male lead and play tsundere (no offense to another favorite of mine, Misaki from Kaichou wa Maid-sama). She is a strong-willed character that can use her own abilities to get out of difficult and sometimes treacherous situations. She inspires other characters, not simply grabs their eye. She has a plan and a dream from the start. She is courageous and driven, she is kind-hearted and defiant. Shirayuki is also susceptible to romance, and she makes the more adorable expressions that really hit home.

Shirayuki is not the only character in this show, but she is above and all the biggest reason that this show is amazing. I could go on about the beautiful animation, the intense action sequences, the other dynamic characters and the beautiful romance. But honestly, it all comes back to her."

What is this?

For this year's tourney I decided to add a 2015 Show Spotlight on the front page of the thread. Throughout the tourney I'll have different shows here that I think deserve a little more attention. I won't solely put shows I like on here, I'll also look through the thread and see what shows other people are talking about. Another thing, I will also put up spectacular votes about the certain show on this page so that everyone can see. If you put the time and effort into a vote, I think you deserve a little recognition.

Tourney Staff Thoughts on the Show

"Shirayuki is a great female lead." - ShawnHacaga

"This show changed my life. It got me in touch with my feminine side." - cay032692

"???" - Swaggercandy

"???" - bobland

Looking forward to the tournament. If you need any help, I can help keep tallies and mod the forum when I have spare time.

In regards to the questionnaire, my opinion is:

1) The number of entries means little to me, though taking a larger pool from the nominations could make for a better tournament. 64 seems like a good number, and depending on the number of nominations, I'd say it could even be higher

2) I believe that newly registered accounts should not have the right to vote, as it leaves the tournament open to vote abuse, which is almost impossible to check for and regulate properly without restricting who can vote.

3) I like the idea of the Revenge of the Fallen round. It adds a nice element of fun and surprise to the tournament, and gives an additional chance to anime that may have just lost due to bullshit reasons (ie. One powerhouse anime losing to another powerhouse anime early in the tournament).

4) I think giving a reason should be optional. Giving a well written paragraph about your favourite anime is nice and all, but having it as a mandatory requirement will increase the barrier to entry, since some people are lazy or just terrible at writing reviews (I know I am, lol).

5) No ideas currently, but if I come up with anything, I'll share it.

1. 64 sounds better than 30. Maybe somewhere in the middle, like 48?

2. I don't think accounts made after the start date should be allowed to vote.

3. I love Revenge of the Fallen rounds.

4. I think you should have to give a reason, if only because it encourages more participation and thought about each vote. In tourneys where all you have to do is write the name of the show/character, I find that that's all people will do. Giving reasons basically means everyone campaigns at least a little bit, and shares their opinions.

5. Nothing right now... Maybe I'll edit this if I think of something.

☠ I'd like to increase the shows that make it into the tourney proper from 30 to 64. Do you like that idea? Not like it? Have a different number in mind? 64 sounds fine to me.

☠ Should we continue to not allow people to vote that make accounts after the tourney has started? Yes they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

☠ Do you like the Revenge of the Fallen round? Do you want it kept in or possibly remove it? Keep it

☠ It has always been a requirement that people have to give a reason for their vote. Honestly, it's not that hard I think. Should we continue with this? Should we make it optional? No I'm lazy. If you want my participation you will not make me give a reason.

☠ I want to make this tourney to be as user friendly as possible. I want to see lots of people participate. Any ideas you'd like to share? More cookies!!

30 would be super tight for 4 seasons. 64 = 16 per season, I like the sound of that.

In the past it definitely felt like we could start with more.

I like it. It varies things up a bit, and also gives a chance to reconsider some early kills.

I want the reason requirement, even if it's a bullshit sentence fragment. I don't want to see people only dropping the show name they're voting for. But if someone does a story vote or something I think that can count in lieu of a "reason" reason.

"X anime cause drill hair" is fine with me, the person is still at least expressing something.

1) Great! The more the merrier (and saltier)!

2) I don't see a problem if they message a tourney admin for permission. We've done this before, haven't we? If they don't do this, their votes shouldn't count. Wait, maybe I was thinking of people with low CR points... Regardless, I think the tourney admins should have the final say in whether or not their votes would count.

3) ROTF is a cruel way of giving us hope that one of our defeated favorites still has a chance... In other words it's entertaining. Let's keep it!

4) I could be mistaken on this, but isn't there higher participation in some of these tourneys when voting is as simple as just writing down the names? Maybe make the written reasons optional. I don't mind either way though. A good balance of this might be to have a minimum of one sentence.

5) I'll probably think of something later.

1) 64 sounds great.

2) For sure. Easiest way to counter abuse of the voting system.

3) Keep it, definitely. Some of the best get knocked out way too early.

4) Nah. I love campaigns but sometimes I just feel lazy.

5) In relation to number 4, I think it'll be easier for more people to participate if they don't have to give a reason for their vote.
