I'm not sure how to even word this correctly, but it seems to me that so, so many anime have those "awkward" situations where the main character might walk in on a girl in the middle of changing, or fall over onto her, accidentally grabbing her boobs, or other stuff of this nature. This, I really don't care in the slightest, what pisses me off though is how they react. The male acts ridiculously nervous, and the girl acts in such a retarded, stupid manor where she gets all so angry and such. Also if the main character happens to see other girls, a bunch of girls act in an unrealistically jealous way too. This thought really only came to me when I was watching "Strike the blood". I've only watched the first 14 episodes, and this nonsense has gotten on my nerves way too much to continue watching that series.

In short, I really don't mind nudity or anything sexual, it's the characters ridiculous behavior towards it I can't stand. When I first started watching anime, I loved that and thought it to be really funny, just not anymore. What are the top anime out there storywise that either have none of this stuff, or only very little? I don't mind the genre, I primarily watch anime for their stories anyway.

Many of the more dramatic anime avoid this. Some examples I can think of (I mostly watch romance, so that's the primary genre for most of these):

The Key anime: Kanon, Clannad, Angel Beats, in particular.
Anohana
Nagi no Asukara
ef: Tale of Memories
Natsuyuki Rendezvous (this is sort of a love-it-or-hate it show, but it's about three adults acting like adults)
Kokoro Connect
Snow White with the Red Hair
Hanasaku Iroha
Please Teacher (maybe a little of this at the beginning, but by then they have moved beyond being nervous around each other)
Aishiteruze Baby

For non-romance anime, try:
Barakamon
Usagi Drop
The Eccentric Family
Trigun
FMA: Brotherhood
Serial Experiments Lain

This is definitely a tough call but MNMike gave you a great list. I can only think of a handful of titles to add...

Non-Romance/Some Sex-Romance:
Parasyte
Tokyo Ghoul
Danganronpa
Speed Grapher (warning: very dark)
Rin
Ryoko's Case Files
Future Diary (well sorta...he isn't afraid of doing it just afraid of the yandere in love with him)
Btooom! (warning: very dark)
Nana (yuri)
Blue Drop (yuri)
Cross Ange (yuri)
Simoun (yuri)
The Skull Man

That's all that comes to mind at the moment.

  • .hack//Roots MMO anime. I liked Roots better than .hack//Sign, but the whole .hack universe is pretty fascinating
  • Dragon Ball Bulma is the one character who is sexualized here, but Goku's reactions are innocent. Master Roshi just plays his part. The rest of the show makes up for it. Dragon Ball is very distinct and much lighter hearted compared to Dragon Ball Z
  • Shiki Horror which begins as a typical suspense, then evolves more into a psychological. Pretty damn good show
  • Code Geass I don't know how to describe it. If you liked Death Note, you'll like this, even though it is different, Lelouch and Light share the same laughter and craziness at times

  • Death Note Mostly psychological battle of intellect and wits. No need to worry about the silly cliches
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion Character reminds me of Tsukasa from .hack//Sign, helpless in an annoying way, but the story is good anyway
  • Steins;Gate Pretty emotional as well. No fan service thank god, the story is amazing on it's own
  • One Piece Pretty much from Episode 1 til the end of the Summit War Saga was amazing. Easily would call it a masterpiece. Very lighthearted with good morals adapted into it... But lately it's been getting weird and redundant... Not so much awkward moments as there is ridiculous boob sizes now

Legend of the Galactic Heroes has none of that sex humor going on. if you want a more recent release, than Joker Game is a pretty grounded show regarding how people react to stuff.

Hanasaku Iroha -> iirc the novelist fantasized lewd stuff in the first few episodes, and if i remember Ohana was the one playing the role in his fantasy ("for his novel/story"). it's not a major thing in the story/plot, and it may or may not bother you.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Attack on Titan, Cowboy Bepop, Steins gate. Basically anything that is really mainstream is usually (but not always) a safe bet
