I am of the stand point that as long as it can be understood and displays a minimum of grammar, like differing between basic singular and plural nouns (woman/women; man/men) and punctuation (instead of making it one giant block of run-on sentence), then I don't care what other mistakes are made.

Edit: Though, I can see where both sides are coming from. At one end not everyone is very skilled at grammar usage, and at the other end it can be extremely difficult to understand what someone is intending to convey through written word when grammar isn't used. In my opinion, it should first be understood that grammar is the body language and vocal tone of the written word, and that is why it is there. Less than making someone appear unintelligent for not using excellent grammar-improper, poor, or lack of grammar, is more of a problem when it leads to misunderstandings.

I'm a grammar nazi, but only because I want to understand what you're trying to say, not to insult.

People with bad grammar aren't necessarily stupid, they just suck at grammar.

yes and no.
Some people just have issues with writing (as there is a skill for both how to write and how to speak/give speeches etc)
While some just do it that makes them look like an idiot etc...
like if it was someone who deals with it on a daily basis...

As a major language nerd: generally, no, grammatical mistakes aren't a sign of stupidity per se. Many things that are considered mistakes are actually more of a matter of dialect, many of which I happen to like. I use ain't, y'all, and various other things that are considered incorrect.

However, there comes a point where certain things make reading what you are writing become difficult. In these cases, the errors are usually true errors, and continuing to make these mistakes shows either an inability or unwillingness to learn.

Your constant use of run-on sentences (the only punctuation being the rare period or misused ellipsis) makes reading anything you type a major chore for me, and so I will often not read what you say. I'm not trying to be mean by any stretch, but you have to see where people are coming from when they try to enforce certain grammatical rules. It makes a major difference. People have a reason for pushing these rules, and they are valid so long as it isn't stretched into territory it doesn't belong.

"i helped my uncle jack off a horse"
"I helped my Uncle Jack off a horse."

"I brought the strippers jack and david along with some beer to the party"
"I brought the strippers, Jack, and David, along with some beer, to the party."

"Woman, without her man, is nothing."
"Woman: without her, man is nothing. "

In those examples, the use of punctuation and capitalization alone drastically changes the meaning of the sentences.

If you live and grew up in Ancient Rome, you would received finest education there is to offer! That why there was lot of Roman in high position who happen to be highly intelligent! Like Marcus Octavius :p He wanted to expanded the Rome terrority and bring the outsider children the blight future! That why he wanted to wipe out Barbarians since they're uneducated and wouldn't adapt to modern world.

What is it Marcus said? Rome are Superior Civilization! :p

((I know, I know I keep role playing as Marcus Octavius :p))

I think those examples are extreme compared to how people misuse grammar most of the time but you do make a good point.
That being said for me it's more of an inability as i have tried improving my grammar and without fail i will continue to make the same mistakes to the point i just go ...fuck it i'll try again next time.

So i see this a lot online and i find it funny because i have been called out by people for using Your instead of you're and other mistakes all the time.

I routinely get grammar wrong even thought i know proper grammar and make the same mistakes over and over \ o /
So people just assume because of that you can't be intelligent.

I don't understand that way of thinking.

Just because someone is bad with grammar and has a hard time with it doesn't mean they aren't intelligent in general...for all you know they could be in university or know things that one would consider only possible with intelligence (High level Mathematics etc).

I think the whole if you don't use grammar properly you are not intelligent and are dumb argument and belief is pretty dumb and just makes people look unintelligent.

That's my opinion on it however honestly i don't really care about using the right Your or You're most of the time online since i assume people have the basic intelligence to read into context and i'm a lazy shit.

i dunno i just find it really funny and stupid how people go aggro and everyone corrects people aggressively if there grammar is incorrect it just makes them seem like children to me

yo u must b lyk rly werd if u think bad grammar & intelligence r not linked. As difficult as that was to read, I can only imagine how hard it was to type.

My dad's horrible at spelling and yet he's very good at math, programming, mechanics/robotics, 3D modeling, etc.

I'm literate enough to go for a degree in English if I had the money, and yet I'm horrible with numbers.

Different people: Different strengths

Some people prefer to add on to their strengths by furthering them, and others prefer to focus on improving their weaknesses. I'm probably the latter, ever since finding out how lucrative careers in the STEM field can be.

Anyone who claims such a thing is showing his/her intellectual dishonesty. If you understand the meaning of what was said and you still insist on being a jerk about it then that speaks volumes about your interest in the actual discussion. Simply reminding someone that there grammar is wrong and moving on is quite acceptable and I encourage it.

I think as long as you can get your point across, then you've succeeded. Spelling and grammar aren't as important as being able to put together a post that people can read and understand. Personally, I correct most of the mistakes in my head as I read so they don't bother me that much. Sometimes I don't even notice. The only time I have trouble is when people don't use punctuation, which can make things harder to read, and sometimes I'll just give up and not bother finishing it.
