I'm interested in hearing about how people got into anime, whether if you guys were always into anime since kids and never grew out of it, or if you got into it as an adult. As for me, I was 22 when I first got into it, and I had previously thought it to be just a kids thing. My cousin was always trying to convince me to watch anime. She spent probably half a year telling me about a few different anime, showing me some trailers, etc, and eventually one day when I was just bored, I gave in, and watched an anime with her. The anime was called Elfen lied, which turned out to be fairly interesting right away. We watched the whole series together, but the fact that there's cousin incest stuff in it, made me pretty suspicious. I asked her in a joking around kind of way somewhat early into the series if she was hinting at anything here, she denied it.

Anyway, this didn't really get me into anime. I liked Elfen Lied because it seemed mature, gory, had a good story and a sad ending, but I just wasn't interested in watching anymore anime. It took yet another day of being bored and my cousin over, that we watched Gantz together, then Claymore sometime later, both were brilliant, and at this point I was actually wanting to get into anime and watch more. She recommended Death Note next, which was the first time I watched an anime alone, and from here, I would have considered myself an anime fan, and was actually looking up more. I quit watching anime half way through 2013, and didn't really get back into it until the beginning of this year. Main reason why was because I got a girlfriend who was just flat out not interested in anime, and I was working too much. I just didn't have time for it. Now that i'm single again and not working as much, i've been watching a fair bit lately again.

So, what about you guys?

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Anyways, I guess I got into it when I was watching some gaming livestreams and some people in chat started mentioning Cowboy Bebop and Gurren Lagaan. I watched a few more after that, and then stopped. Started up again around the same time I made my account to see if it's something I'd enjoy, and so far I've enjoyed most of what I've watched.

I was probably 11 when i first heard about anime (I wasnt allowed to watch shows like Pokemon, Sailor Moon or DBZ). I was trying to fix up my MySpace page at the time and i went to a website called Blingee (I believe) and accidentally clicked the anime section. I always thought they were cute but i didn't know where to find shows like that per se. Fast foward to i was 16 and after hearing people talk about it i googled anime and from there i saw Death Note. At first i didn't get it, but after a couple episodes i was completely immersed in it and it's turned me into the hikikomori i am today in a good way.

When I started watching it I was really young, it was indistinguishable from the other cartoons on so I just kept watching.

I watched anime here and there when I was really little, but wasn't really sure about it. Then I played too many videogames- at the same time exposing myself to japanese culture that way. Finally, Toonami (DBZ, Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, etc) came out along with Pokemon and that was it.

I'd say I've been an anime fan since at least 6th grade, if not longer. I think anime is great because you can find a show that you relate to whether you're in elementary school kid or an adult.

I started by watching the anime that aired on Toonami when I was in Elementary School. When I got into Middle School I started watching anime online and just progressed from there.

My friend in 5th grade would bring manga to school everyday, and he would bring one for me as well and we would read them during recess or lunch or whenever. Then I kinda stopped watching anime up until freshman year of high school, when someone reminded me of what One Piece was, and I went to go find episodes online. It was all downhill from there

As a kid i used to watch stuff like Pokemon, Naruto, One Piece, and other stuff on Toonami. At the time I didn't realize that this was "anime". It wasn't until high school when anime started to call to me. I was then introduced to Crunchyroll and I watched SAO and Attack on Titan. As i was curious about other anime, i chose to watch Parasyte. I soon jumped off the precipice that decends into the otaku lifestyle.

SHOGUN WARRIORS.

Also, vehicle Voltron, which was like ten times better than lion Voltron.

Growing up I'd watch anime mixed in with American cartoons without really appreciating the difference (there isn't much with the children's shows).

It wasn't until Highschool when a friend introduced me to Trigun that I started going out of my way to specifically watch anime.

It seems unlikely for someone to not be interested in areas that anime pops up and later picks up an interest in it as an adult. *unless it's their children that get them into it.

Due to being neglected at a very young age, I was practically raised by the television. It was sometime around then I stumbled across a channel that broadcast old cartoons from foreign countries during the daytime. I remember watching glorious Nipponese animations (or Anime as most normies would call it) like Voltron,Speed Racer, Astro Boy and Battle of the Planets, and was instantly hooked by it. The rest is history....a very dark and grim history.
