step 1: buy a manga

ya gotta start somewhere.

after that, get membership card(s) to a bookstore like booksamillion or barnes and noble, wait for the buy 2 get 1 free sales (there's always one during the holidays!!), and use the coupons they send you, and... order on their websites. They're always cheaper online. Plus with membership you get free shipping.

if ya live in a big city you could probably buy manga for nothing at a used bookstore or anime shop or something idk i dont have any experience with that but im sure there's plenty of options in big cities

Not sure if Manga collection is worth it. They will never go up in value or anything and they cost a lot. I stop after buying roughly 50 volumes of Naruto, that's $400! But if you must start a collection... I recommend going on eBay and buy some used manga books. Most are in fairly good conditions and are roughly 50-75% cheaper.

Also start by collecting manga's that are complete and finished because it's a nice feeling to look and see complete series in your bookshelf even if it is just 2 volumes

A collection is for life (or at least for the long term) so don't expect or go buying everything in sight. You should collect series you love, and know you'll go back to it time and time again. Preferably I'd start with a finished series, just because you have a goal. Ongoings are fun, but after months and years of waiting for it to finish could leave you in the dust. Also, don't rush to finish anything. It took me three years to get all of DBZ (Just Z ). After you get series you love you can start to branch out.
Ways to buy manga:
1.) Barnes and Noble- 2 times a year they will have a Viz media sale where you buy 2 and get 1 free.
2.) Rightstuf- monthly deals, especially good with a membership.
3.) Instocktrades- Mostly for american comic books, but the manga they do have are nearly 50% off.

Good luck!

Just start! By the first volume of a series, or If some gives it to you... and keep collecting, if you by one or two a pay check it will build pretty fast, Just make sure to cover your bill first. It will grow over time no need to hurry

If you have a half price book store there you can get some great deals. I picked up the first 40 volumes of Naruto the other day at one for $2 a piece.

Start with any series that isn't that long and have finished serialization. Full Metal Alchemist could be a great way to start.

If you want to collect it just because you think it will bring you money later, then the best advice I can give you is don't.

If you want to do it because you really fucking like manga then you probably know what series you want to collect from so just go on ebay or kijiji and try to find some people selling off their collections. You can also try garage sales and flea markets, but it will be significantly harder to find the stuff you want there, even though you would be getting it for cheaper if you did.

Ebay, mate.

I just got the first 12 Attack on Titan for £50 (give or take a few pence) total. 1-9 in a bundle, and the other 3 separately.
Look for bundles - remember, with fairly new manga, if you buy duplicate volumes you can usually re-sell the duplicates for £3-5.

That said, if you do discover this mythical Manga shop, be sure to let me know. I've always despaired at the prices here.
