For the last three weeks I've been working at a call center. The money is great! I get paid $15 an hour... but I'm really not liking it.
The work is easy don't get me wrong but I just can't deal with the work environment.
I feel trapped and watched at all times. Phone calls come up back to back and it gets tiring after a while.

I really am thinking of quitting and going back to retail. I think people are less rude when you have them face to face.

Take it from me, life's too short. Does the pay make up for the crap you take home in your head?

or

Make a time line/figure for sticking to it for the $ and then 'hasta la vista'

Yes, I did.. Used to work at the Court House making 25.00 dollar an hour as PC Tech and they wanted me to learn Java programming but before I had that chance I got burnt out (Went Crazy, Mentally unstable) due to not used to working.. I actually felt sick, had to go home. I was told I'm getting lay off, so many people did on the floor below me! -shrugs-.

The problem is I never had jobs in my teen years, well when I went to Deaf school I did had job at Long john silver but that only few hours.

That why its very important to make sure your kids or younger brother/sister in their teen year to get Job to have discipline and build up their confidence around people (strangers).. also its take them out of their comfort zone (outside home).

I'm not used to being around people, I truly hate people but not really hate them.. just don't like being around them. I guess I'm Computer nerd! XD Probably because I'm deaf and not used to being around them due to used to being left out.

Am thinking about trying out Java programming, I have question for those who are Java programmer.. Is this one Program that landed you a job or do you have to learn more than Java programming? XD

It pays the bills and I have disposable income, and while I wouldn't say I hate it, I wouldn't miss it either. Mostly cause I am here a lot, it not unusual to have one day off a week and I suspect if it wasn't for the one day in seven law in my state that would disappear.

As for Java programming (or just about any other really), in addition to a knowledge of language you'll have to learn various libraries etc to do your job. For example, the common task of querying a database, you'll need to know how to use JDBC and some SQL. You'll need to know about design patterns, coding conventions, and some knowledge how the language functions internally etc. You'll have to learn how to use whatever version control software your employer used. There is a lot you'll need to learn beyond just language and a fair amount of it will more than likely be on the job.

got paid well when I worked at a factory fixing machines alongside a crazy guy from Kazakhstan, this factory was almost like a mental asylum though I'm glad that I'm not working there now

Run, run as fast as you can. There are few jobs capable of causing as much mental damage as the modern call center. They're sweatshops with headsets. They will destroy you. I spent over a decade working in call centres. Now it takes three medications to keep me from slitting my wrists on a daily basis.

Run.

I have had many jobs right out of high school I agree call centers can drive you nuts
but remember HuastescoOtaku that retail can be difficult as well I worked many yrs. in retail and customers can be just as nasty
especially during return time yes. The thing is I took my dads advice stay at current job and search for something you like
I currently work in entertainment but it did not happen overnight I had to start at the bottom and work up the ladder that kind of notion just keep searching and good luck.

Only job I really wasn't happy with was the one where one of my bosses would throw things when she got mad. Lucky for me, the phone she tried to launch in my direction was a landline and stopped when it hit the end of the cord.

Even if you like your job, there will be days where you will hate it.

The only job I absolutely hated was when I worked for a company called Compex that specializes in annoying hospitals and medical offices to give them copies of medical records so people could sue. My god, I have never worked with so many idiots before. I worked there for a little over a year while waiting for clearance for my next job.

And here I thought being a Roman Emperor would mean you wouldn't have to work like us peasants.

Well yes, that was before I found the portal to the past to become Roman Emperor, and found a way to live forever to continue bringing Rome ideals in this world..

Typically programmers never stop learning. Learning new languages is a big part of most programming jobs. You can't just learn one and be done with it. Technologies change and you have to stay current and change with the times.
