I've recently started my internship at a game company and as with every first week on the job, I had to learn the ropes and get familiar with the procedures pertaining to the position I was placed in.

Over the course of five days, I did my best to go with the flow and familiarizing myself with the digital tools at my disposal, but that didn't prevent me from committing my fair share of gaffes of which I'm reminded by my supervisors.

Although they are not upset at me and tell me that I'm doing a good job, I can't help but feel incredibly distraught and forlorn whenever I make a fool of myself at work, especially given that I greatly admire the studio I'm currently working at.

My obsession with perfectionism, first impressions and structure frequently clash with the realities of training and trial & error, which result in me feeling compunctious.

Despite this, I always try to maintain a positive mindset and I keep track of all the mistakes I commit by writing down reminders of past blunders. Even though this has allowed me to make fewer mistakes over the course of a single week, I constantly worry about the likelihood that the damage has already be done and is irreparable (in my mind, at least).

Do you experience similar tribulations when working hard on something, and what is your coping mechanism (feel free to share your advice with everyone on this thread)?

It's bound to happen especially when you are new, and besides you are there to learn and gain experience. So learn what you can from the mistakes, try not to repeat them, and try to move on. It's really all you can do.

Yes, when I make mistake there is always that twing of regret.

Everyone goes through a learning curve when they start a new job. People who work in human resources know that it honestly takes a new employee one full turn of the fiscal year to learn the basics of a new job. Don't let it get you down. Just laugh it off and say, I won't do that again! Or I think I will try doing this differently next time..

I tend to struggle with this, especially if I make a mistake in something I'm usually very good at. I'm working on not being so hard on myself.

I do get upset when I make a mistake but I run with it, laugh about it. Self-Deprecating humor is quite therapeutic.

Couldn't agree more with what you just said. In fact, two of the top HR managers (both of whom were super friendly and congenial) assured me that what I'm going through is 100% normal, and they are well aware of my efforts and overall enthusiasm while on the job. I'm sure it'll pan out in the end since I have absolutely no intention to neglect my duties or be careless with my assignments.

You'll do fine. Hang in there and ask questions if you need to.

I´ve done so many, I´m numb to them now. I learn from them though, and I can honestly say that I have never, for the most part, done the same blunder twice. Ish.
