I am sticking with xxjing's post. So, I see The Tower of Druaga as harem but as more of a minor one because it doesn't emphasize.

Tower of Druaga isn't a harem at all.

There are only two girls who show any interest in Jill, Fatina and Kaya. It's a love triangle.

The show has many male characters who often steal the spotlight. Action and comedy are the focuses of the show, romance is secondary.

Unlike Kirito, Jill does not go around saving girls and having them fall in love with him. He always works with a party, that often has other male members, and they all cooperate together to complete tasks that usually have nothing to do with helping some cute girl out.

The difference? Easy.

Harem anime focuses on the aspect of harem whether it makes fun of it or flips the theme upside down. Anime's with harems are not the focus point of the series, but have an element of harem.

Ex: Log Horizon has a harem, but it is not the point of the show. Monster Musume is a show about a harem and it IS the point of the show.

Many people consider Ai Yori Aoshi to be a harem show. I do not. The MC only has eyes for Aoi Sakuraba.

*high five*

I walked into this topic hoping that somebody would mention this! The best parts of Ai Yori Aoshi are (IMO) when it's just Aoi and Kaoru. All the "harem" stuff is just a complete waste of the reader's time.

I agree completely. I think a lot of those claiming it is a harem show are projecting their desires on it. To me it is a straight up love story.
