To be honest, if you're distracted by things that you want to write while you're reading something, then it probably means that writing gives you more joy and utility. By all means, go and write. I had a friend who used to play in a band and he said he loved the crowd, but hated being a part of it. It probably isn't an original quote but you get the idea. It's probably the same for you

I've probably mentioned this before but I'll do it again.

Whenever I read a book, my mind gets cluttered and distracted by other things. This makes it hard for me to visualize whenever I read. I can't see what goes on in the story because my mind is constantly on something else. Yet whenever I am not reading, my mind is clear and I am able to have vivid imaginations about pretty much anything. That is why I prefer writing to reading because my imaginations are clear and vivid. I was told that I am probably not meant to read but write instead. Don't get me wrong I'll read a book but it is a challenge because I can not visualize anything that is happening in the story. I am good when it comes to writing because I can already visualize it perfectly. What I am trying to get at is how do I clear my mind to read a book? What do you think of people who are like me? Is there any way I can read without getting distracted mentally? Advice is needed.

Enjoy!!!

I get this problem if I try to read when I'm tired. I find listening to music can help, but lyrics can be distracting.

Have you given soundtracks a shot?
