Let me know if a thread like this one exist or not.
Thanks a bunches.

If you had to choose a plot for an anime series, what kind would you choose? What do you look for in an anime series far as plot?

Enjoy!!!

Death, betrayals, friendships, plot twists/mind fuckery, in-depth narrative, good interaction between characters, with lots of lore, character development and world building.

First and foremost I want to be entertained. If the plot delivers it's done its job.

Let me give an example; many complain of tropes, which can be good or bad depending or how they are used. There's is no such thing as an entirely original storyline or element, so it is all about how they are combined and used, that makes all the difference. I don't want to feel as if the characters or plot elements are there to satisfy some sort of common denominator and market statistics, but because they are an integral part of a story.

Do I need firendships, betrayals, intrigue, world building, etc as @Hail_King_Kakao above, well not all together, and it depends on the anime. Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth. IMO too many promising animes have come to grief by tryng to cover too many angles. Sometimes, it is no bad thing to have something as your thing that you know you do well and focus on doing that, and target that audience.
So those who like a harem anime with fanservice, with those typical storyline features can get what they want, while those who would want the fantasy story without harem elements and fanservice, can get a more story oriented anime. Rather than always trying to do both at once.

While I've seen anime that incorporate Zen/Buddhism themes since that's quite popular in japan along with Shintoism, what I wanna see is a show heavily influenced by Taoist cosmology and the respective arts that stem from that type of world view.

I want to see one in a highschool setting with a male protagonist who sits by the window. He has a male best friend who is the comic relieve while there is a girl he likes who likes him, but he doesn't know this. JK if we never got another one of these again that would fantastic, can we get some shows with adults or University settings as these characters are far more interesting.

In general: Just needs to be interesting (to me) in some way with a non-douchebag MC, and ofc doesn't need to try to rely on fan service/cheap gimmicks to try to sell itself.

For a favorite: Deep intelligent plot, well-developed characters, defying certain tropes (especially in regards to female & LGBT characters), doesn't try to force shock/edginess, and/or has its own style.

A well-established over-arching plot and plenty of character interactions. Sensible world-building and use of basic english writing techniques such as foreshadowing or symbolism. I will also add in colorful character personalities and development.

Depending of the genres, more or less depth will need to be added, especially with characters.

If you're trying to turn a genre upside-down on its head, know the in's and out's of genre and its tropes.

There is plenty more to be said that a writing class can help educate you on, so those are just some basic thoughts that I have.

This plus bishounen/BL, with characters who are royalty. And a generally positive outlook after all of that.
See also Code Geass.

Something original is best, though I can settle for something not overdone (high school, harem, etc.). I would prefer this not to be an adaptation since the show will then end with a read the manga/light novel ending. I want a complete show with beginning, middle, and end with good pacing. This is key since the lack of a good end and pacing crashes a lot of shows for me. Also no sexual pandering, the designs for anime characters plummet in quality in proportion to the amount of fan service in my opinion and so does the story.

I think it would be cool to have a long running shounen where the protagonist accomplishes his goals and then has a second series where there is a time skip of 5 to 20 years and the protagonist of the first series is the antagonist of the second series. Then we get to watch as the new protagonist has to defeat the old protagonist and figure out the old protagonist's plans, motives and stuff.

Series 1:
    Long Running Shounen
Protagonist and Main Antagonist have powers of some kind and aren't OP.
    Battle series.
    Protagonist is single.

-time skip goes here-

Series 2:
    Medium Length Seinen
Antagonist is Protagonist of first series..
    Antagonist is now OP.
    Still a battle series.
Antagonist has a wife, possibly kids.
    Multiple protagonists, all late teens.
New protagonists all have powers but are very unskilled.

I don't have a favorite type of anime, I just have genres I'm not interested in.
