well if i wasn't Wiccan i would have a lot less books. i would also not have studied as many topics as i have... still would have a bunch of incense though. my outlook would probably be different, and it would take me longer to grow as a person since my spirituality wasn't as strong.

Ah could you tell me what the hell is Wiccan?

Wiccan't do that, Araragi-kun.

Wiccan is kind of an eccentric neo-pagan religion that does whatever the hell it wants. Nearly no one actually follows the religion by it's own dogma but love to say they are Wiccan and just do whatever occult stuff is fun. It's a grand old time.

For the record, I'm not Wiccan, but every Wiccan I know is interesting. And crazy.

Hey dude maybe you shouldn't base your whole life on spreading the love of jesus... there are other things out there ya know?

Maybe you shouldn't base your entire views of the world on scare stories you see on the TV news.

I uh... i think I worded this wrong. Lets retry this:

I think someone should be happy no matter what religion they have. I am trying to say that religion shouldn't make you happy or sad of it was or wasn't there, I think someone should be happy for the life they live, whether it be with or without Jesus, or whatever religion someone follows. You should have hope and happiness for yourself no matter what. Yes, it is absolutely ok to have support in religions, I think it is great especially in a time of grievance, but you shouldn't put all your weight on it.

Yes, there are crazies who literally spend their whole life praising god and shouting slurs at the gays, but I don't think OP is one of them. I am terrible at explaining my opinion aren't I? Yeesh!

Life would have no meaning. I'd find it to be the biggest of all jokes. To spend time on life and then for it to disappear unavoidably. I'd have no hope. I'd think we're just born to die. Decisions wouldn't matter because in the end nothing will exist and you'll be less than a thought. Some day even coca cola and Shakespeare will be forgotten. What chance do you have? One day all life will end and it will be the ultimate punchline to the longest joke ever told.

Edit: I asked what you would do without your religion. I don't have anything against atheists as people and I understand it but so many of you are just here to say that God doesn't exist and I was willing to ignore that you weren't answering my question but it's getting old. I didn't ask weather or not you believe in God. If you're an Atheist than you don't really apply to the situation unless you consider atheism a religion.

Sorry, this is going to be a bit lengthy and it's not going to be troll-esque. I feel strongly about this particular topic. If you don’t want to read semi-pretentious butthurt, please skip my post.

I am an atheist and others have said that I am a nihilist. In my mind I am just an objective thinker.

I'm not like, depressed about my outlook on the universe or anything. I'm going to explain my worldview and why I'm happy with it in spoilers so it isn't an ugly text-wall. Now, keep in mind this is just my view of existence. It's no more or less valid than anyone else's views. I'm a philosophical and rambling kind of guy, I could talk about this stuff forever and branch off into a million little details. But I'll try to keep it concise.

I can be happy with this reasoning because it takes away some of the pressure. I'm not a part of any grand plan. Most of my actions have no meaning. It's very comforting because I know it's ok to screw up a little. And I still have a reason to live: To have children and ensure their health so they can have children if they choose. I'm not worried so much about being forgotten because my genes will persist, and really why does it matter who remembers me years after I die? I won't know the difference when I'm dead.

It's super late as I'm posting this, so I'm sure there are some holes to be poked in this post. Feel free to poke them, I'll patch it up when I am awake and my brain is fully functioning.

Even with a religion, how would you feel living for eternity? Isn't it just as stupid as non-existence?

No. You aren't just promised eternal life. You're promised eternal life and eternal happiness. You will always be satisfied.

And you're happy with being a robot?

Because that seems to fit the definition of a robot...

That's not a robot. It's the absence of sadness. It's world peace. It's what people try to achieve.

As nice as it sounds a world without sadness is the worst world imaginable. Happiness cannot exist without sadness in the same way light cannot exist without darkness. They define each other and only having an understanding of one would in fact make us robotic. How do you expect people to appreciate life's joys if they've never experienced its hardships? That's a "programmed happiness" that has no real meaning. I see the world as a "body" in which we are mere cells. We reproduce, we grow, and we die but there's nothing wrong with that cycle. That "body" has infinite potential to grow and THAT is something worth living for.

To be honest, living forever would not bring me happiness. I think that dying plays a huge role in happiness, because you enjoy the time you do have.

I dont have a religion, I don't go to church evey Sunday, but I still believe in god. There are parts in Christianity that I don't believe in e.g.- the creation of the earth because science has already proven that it is ballshit. To be honest I think religions are to make people believe in a bunch of shit. I believe in science but I still think there is someone looking down on us

at most certainly is a portion of the atheist community. I'd hate to think they're all jerks. They can't be.

A good amount of Atheists are not like that of course, but the minority that is like that overrepresent their views. It would be folly to imply that all Atheists are uppity about it, just like it would be folly to insist that all religious people are uppity about it.

Anyways it was a joke. Jokes always have a certain amount of truth to them. Take it for what you will.
