Wait, wait...someone here believes the theory of evolution is a myth propagated by the left?

I'm fine if some people believe in creationism...it is just that, what you typed in the OP struck me as someone believing in some sort of 'conspiracy theory' involving the theory of evolution, and it struck me as a funny thing to believe.

Noble intentions with unfortunately a small error in execution. You created a thread about the futility of debate based on some threads that you've been in recently, but by posting all those links, you merely brought that dialogue in here to begin with. Couple that with a few of the point people have made in here; that A: there's never really debate going on in here, merely arguing, B: People are usually married to their opinions and C: That it's easier to admit you're wrong in person, than in an online forum and you have a recipe for a wonderful irony where a debate about the futility of debate turns into a pointless affair.

That said, the intentions were good and I applaud the effort. But to offer some criticism going forward, talk about the online 'debate' itself rather than ones you've been in.

To me, it felt like you're just calling me out on it just to shut me up or something, when in the end, it is essentially "yeah? so what?"

Hah, no, that's not right. Your topic is complaining about how pointless and frustrating debates are, if I'm not mistaken? I'm saying an undiplomatic character doesn't help create productive debates. An attack on your character is relevant to my point and the topic of discussion, then, and not a logical fallacy like you propose. I even point out that I'm not being particularly diplomatic by mentioning your undiplomatic nature, either.

Just like I said, it put you on the defensive and you're focusing on justifying yourself and putting me down rather than the actual discussion and getting an answer.

Anyway, let me just reassure you that I didn't want to shut you up. I thought I was clear, but I'll say it straight out that I sympathize with you on the debate culture we have making it difficult to have a good learning experience. Also, I didn't mean to put you down too hard with the high horse comment. My goal isn't to troll you. Perhaps I could work on conveying my good humor through text a little better. I wouldn't ever reply to your posts if I hated you or something. S-so, don't think I hate you, b-baka.

It seems like you wanted to vent.

If I may, I'd like to offer some criticism of your OP; you appear to start off on the topic of debating. Then, however, you quickly drifted off onto the topics of anti-Liberal propaganda, and then branched off onto several specific topics that you're passionate about. It appears that this thread is two in one, with more emphasis on propaganda. That is fairly confusing, and gives the impression that this thread is founded upon an unfocussed tangent. Plus, you choosing to start off with accusations and "attacks" puts people on the defense, and begins everything on the wrong foot, if the goal of a calm, rational discussion/debate was the goal. The mountainous amount of links and seeming topic drifting throw in a twinge of confusion, too.

I half-see your OP as a satire of the "debates" you speak of.

OPs greatly determine the outcome of threads, and what I offer as "OP mistakes" largely contribute to this thread "ending badly."

I should inform you that I got your humored point. I think you conveyed it quite well actually. People like you being around is what makes this place pretty enjoyable.

Ah, I see what you mean. Wasn't sure about what you were saying with just that. I'm glad you built on it. I admit, I'm a bit of a dullard when it comes to understanding words.

Looking back, I meant this topic as a mean of masturbatory confirmation seeking and a call out without the name calling....out more than a product of actual discussion.

personally i think debates even in forums like this are actually good helps people encounter new ideas get ideas out their etc which i usually don't see a issue with.

personally i like to enter such a topic for a few main reasons.
1 just voice my input/opinions etc out their.
2 i just enjoy it i usually enjoy learning other peoples opinions weather or not i agree i do like see others opinions.
3. i feel its a opportunity to learn new things quite often cause quite often i enter into a debate with someone i try and do some research on the subject which usually results in finding out new things.
4. sometimes i just do it let out steam i do usually try and avoid being to offensive when that occurs but it does happen.

I don't know, I think I just have a mischievous way of speaking, sometimes. Dealing with me probably requires some patience.

I didn't expect it to have been a rhetorical question and assumed that PV wanted outside input. I'm not used to the idea of PV asking those kinds of questions in threads for nothing.
