Are we headed towards a good place?
Posted 5/26/16 , edited 5/26/16
As the human race. Not simply science, but the arts, religion, every concievable angle. human nature. HAS it changed?? Enough?

Will we survive to see Star Trek and transhumanism and anti-gravity, FTL travel, and so forth, or are our days running out?

This is not a thread about individual death. or the end of the world...

But do we REALLY have that much time?

What is your outlook? Positive? Negative? Or meh? Are you practical, or are you an idealist? A jack-of-all-trades?Gone to bed. Discuss.

If you think we're in a good place now then I have good news:
People don't change.
They change their environment and interpret their religions and laws to suit their individual ideals.
And for as long as the strongest power is money, the masses have the greatest influence on the direction humanity is taking by deciding who they give their money to.

I hope we are headed to a good place, it would be nice to have a positive sci-fi like future like the ones in movies, books and tv shows. I'm pretty idealistic when it comes to the overall future of humanity,

If we are thinking in the timeline of ST, then we are heading that way, at least with the wars and using out the masses. The question can humanity stop killing itself first, after that we can think about stuff, like FTL drives/space travel.
My hopes are, that one day humanity awakens from this onslaughter and starts to use it talents to invent things to improve not for destruction.
It won't be in my lifespan, that's for sure (at least at this time of history it doesn't look like that).

We are advancing in many areas but there will always be a lot of bad to go along with the good. I think we'll do great in many areas but there's still going to be some areas where we fall short. The biggest thing that humanity could and should do is offer empathy training to everyone. It should be in the curriculum of every school all the way from pre school to college. It should be something that we embrace and work hard to spread. Empathy is the counter to narcissism and apathy.

We'll have flying cars.....but drunk drivers.
Warp speed.......with drunk drivers lol.
Nanotechnology that could potentially cure any disease and heal our bodies up really quickly but then we'll still have morons who just have to get that awesome holographic selfie by dangling off a tower and plummeting to their possible deaths...depends on those poor overworked nanobots.
Robots and AI - all wearing maid outfits.
Cybernetic limbs.....but people blowing their hands off just to have a cool robotic arm or because they're too stupid to realize they shouldn't be holding that firecracker, especially after eating roasted marshmallows lol.
Using our dna or a microchip in our bodies for all transactions....and there will still be crooks who will try to get those body parts so they can get your money.

There's always going to be bad to go with all the good. Hopefully as time goes on we can limit all the bad even more. It gets hard reading all the bad things that happen in the news but if you compare this day and age to much of the past then you'll see that things like crime are way down compared to how they were in the Dark Ages or even the Wild West. We just hear about them more since we have access to instant information around the globe.

The only thing that scares me is the amount of people in the United States. Or at least my hometown. So many cars. Too much traffic. Goddamnit.

I used to think the same way. Then I thought of the fact my mind would melt and I would die of fright if I met an alien. Remember, they can't open pantry doors.
