1. He's not a soldier, hes a Marine. Even tho he doesn't deserve the title.
2. He's not currently Serving.
3. He does not represent the Marine Corps.

I've been to Okinawa. They make a lot of money off of us being there. When our base was on lock down and no one could leave, they protested at the gates because they weren't making money.

When I was there I had great experiences with the locals.

Might want to change the title to "Civilian contractor". He's not a solider, nor is he serving.

Japanese women and children need to be educated to stay away from US soldiers and stay away from the base. In the past I've heard in the news of Japanese women being raped and killed by US soldiers.

I'm an American and in my town there is a small army base. the soldiers off the base look so creepy. when a group of them walk on the sidewalk they walk shoulder to shoulder taking up the whole sidewalk. People have to step aside in the street to let them pass. several times young female from town have been raped. once a 17 year old girl was found raped and murdered on the base.

When they come in walmart they look so mean and intimidating, even the black male soldiers look scary. (I'm a black female giving this opinion, please note.) When I see soldiers I keep a distance. And unfortunately because black women are treated like trash in the black community by black males, I keep a distance from them too. I'm not saying that men of other races are better than black men. but when I was younger, my mother and little brother were walking down the street from the store when we suddenly heard gun shots. we looked around and saw a car full of black males laughing and one of them was holding a gun.

when I was five mom caught a black guy crawling through our window we didn't have a gun, but mom broke a glass bottle and went at him. he fled and took our screen with him. We've moved out to a mostly white town. There's prejudice to deal with, but we don't have to be bother with black male hate and terror, which is really nerve wrecking.

i don't mean to bad mouth the military or black men or any other men, but women need to be careful.

By the guy being a contractor he probably was not in uniform, but still Japanese women and all other women around the world need to be careful of men of all shapes and colors. Men are men no matter what.

That's honestly the stupidest shit I've read all day.

Maybe we should all stay way from Muslims because I've heard of a few of them blowing themselves up? Should we stay away from all blacks because they commit a lot of crime? Should we stay away from all whites because a few are in the KKK?

As you said "Men are men no matter what" Stop acting like woman can be the only victims.

Woman are woman no matter what. And some of ya'll are crazy fucks, just likes some men are.

I don't think that's true. It would hurt their economy if the base moved. And they get along fine with the soldiers from proper backgrounds.

Anyway, I hope they don't let this guy return to the USA and murder again like they have before. Just off with his head.

It is true - polls by local papers found 80% of Okinawans were against the relocation of the Futenma Air Station to Henoko (a less crowded part of Okinawa) because they feel Okinawa already contains much more than its fair share of the U.S. military presence.

So, like I said - Okinawans want the U.S. bases moved to elsewhere in Japan - the current (I think he's the current one, anyway) mayor won office by campaigning against the Henoko base. Meanwhile, the rest of Japan wants the U.S. to stay in Okinawa, because they welcome the U.S. military presence in the region just, "not in my backyard".

Every time Japan has a beef with the US, another soldier "rapes an underage girl in Okinawa". Right on cue.
What is it this time, more Abe militarism?

By some reason I get that wibe from the person who killed and dressed as her on social media (that thread a few months ago?)

It's sort of like the nuclear power conundrum inside the United States. Many people want us to use more nuclear power, but nobody wants the power plants or the nuclear waste in their own backyard.

I'd like a nuclear power plant in my back yard. Would beat having a coal plant a few miles away.

Btw there is no nuclear waste problem there is a political problem with reprocessing the waste into usable fuel again. 90%+ of nuclear waste can be recycled into new fuel by just adding some unspent material. The 10%- of actual waste has very little radioactivity and is mainly made up of an assortment of lesser elements, very acidic to the touch. - Source Nuclear engineering professors at my school

Using a criminal as the poster boy for an entire military base isn't exactly fair, is it? There will be crime wherever you go, in any setting. It's unfortunate but it's a fact of life.

Yeah I mean if this was an especially common occurrence or if it was found the base was somehow supporting it then that would be one thing but it wasn't and was dealt with quickly when discovered.

Another thing to keep in mind is he's reported as "a 32-year-old civilian contractor at Kadena Air Base" see that? CIVILIAN contractor. So while he was working at the base he was more or less just a normal guy and doesn't really represent the military itself in any way. People are murdered all the time and just become one of the criminals happens to be part of a base doesn't mean getting rid of the base would improve anything.

I mean this isn't even a race issue since the full page mentions he has a japanese wife! So this isn't about Evil Americans abusing the Japanese. Just some scum here and there causing trouble once in a while. Crime isn't particularly likely to go down even if the bases close and it might actually rise with the presence of military force gone.

In the end it's not all simple and it's hard to say what would happen if the bases were all removed. But I can say for sure it won't stop women from being murdered. It just won't be American base personnel that will be doing it anymore.

You'll find everyone is like that. "Oh a new power plant to help supply power to cities? That's grea ... wait are you putting that in OUR town!?! Hell no you better build that somewhere else! KEEP OUR CITY CLEAN!"

No matter what country people have a tendancy to want to have their cake and eat it to. They want the benefits of things without any of the draw backs. So if it's something like a power plant or military base people are okay with them only as long as they don't have to deal with the pollution or military presence directly.
