What we mostly got today shouldn't need much of an introduction: anime be like
Edit: if we're lucky

games and vr be like

but what improvements would you like you see getting pumped out?
For example, do ya wanna see a crapton of anime looking like

or perhaps anime that is more abstract/surreal looking like the Monogatari/Katanagatari series?

For me, I'm a fan of both 2D and 3D and I want them together but not in the horrid 2.5D style where some games have tried to put animated hand-drawn characters in 3D worlds which is jarring.
Rather, I'm talking like

I think Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress pulls off 2D/3D hybrid the best so far
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TQRJqUbl-Q
The shading and light affects are absolutely gorgeous!

Now if we could have tangibility on the level of Kabaneri and animation on the level of some art out there...

R.I.P. BUDGET but it's not impossible.

I like how anime looks right now, I don't think you could change it drastically and still call it anime, it probably would just be a cartoon. Most anime and manga artists have different ways of drawing their characters which makes shows like kids on a slope and naruto so different

I want full dive VR like in SAO where the only way I know I am in the game is the health bars and menus, and obviously fantasy settings that don't exist in the real world.

While I'm not saying ALL anime should be this way or that way, some animation is objectively better or more well received than others. Would you rather Toei animate DBS and produce something like episode 5 or let Ufotable do it for example? Animation simply has room for improvement. Also, I don't see why being a lot different would make it a "cartoon". Every bit of art I have presented is distinctly in the anime style despite their differences and Japanese people will call their shows "anime" no matter what and we will continue to call them anime as long as it's coming out of Japan and has recognizably anime styles. Hell, they even call Family Guy "anime".

Currently the resolution on VR HMDs (even the top-end ones) isn't really high enough for media in my opinion.

In games it's fine, as once you get absorbed in what you're doing you no longer notice the screen-door effect. However, when watching a video (whether a stereo-panoramic one or a traditional movie "projected" onto a giant theater screen) you quickly notice that the pixel density is low to the point of looking like an old standard definition television.

I've tried watching some CR(as well as normal movies) in virtual desktop and, while the experience is interesting, it's hardly breathtaking. The same can be said for the 360-stereo videos I've seen.

The next gen of headsets (which will probably not be for 3-5 years) will likely have far higher resolution per eye. I don't expect VR games will improve that dramatically from where we are now (even high-end PCs struggle with decades-old graphics in VR) but things like media or full-out monitor / operating environment replacement could quite easily take advantage of much higher resolutions to offer a far more satisfying experience than they do now.

Bleh, alcohol.. Didn't even finish writing and hit post on accident. At any rate, I prefer old-school animation to most CGI (if you couldn't guess from my avatar). I would hope any "VR anime" title would retain as much of that as possible. On the other hand, my honest expectations are quite low.

I see what your saying but anime kind of has its own art style and if Japan did come out with a series like Family Guy and the Simpsons most westerners would deceive it as a " cartoon" because it wouldn't conform to "normal" anime standards

I think creators need to create more unique world's and universes. It's a pleasure to just revel in the culture of a new world and its really stimulates your curiosity.Suisei no Gargantia was fantastic at world building, It's what made Mass Effect so memorable for people.
