So i went on there today to see the show im enjoying

Big order = 6/10

... ok

Asterisk war = 7/10

....i mean opinion aside there have been enough videos made as to why the Asterisk war is worse yet somehow MAL says it's better.

So i go and check out some of the animes rated below average and suprise suprise alot of them are really good and classed as below average.

I usually check reviews / ratings before i watch anything but MAL seems to have good shows rated badly.

Lel MAL ratings aren't something to take seriously. Every rater literally thinks that they are a top-rate critic.

I guess i should be faulted for taking them seriously.

Like jesus christ... some of the reasons for rating stuff low is just opinion > Objectivity.

i use mal and only rate shows i watched based on how much i enjoyed it.
rating on a more serious criteria is too much work. :p

ot: rating only reflect the majority opinion. you could very well find an "underrated" series enjoyable and hate a series that is rated high on mal.

If I read anything on MAL, it's the "recommendations" section to find similar anime lol

Can't really go by MAL's ratings. I do know there are people who use their own rating scale instead of MAL's which I'm guessing will mess up the overall rating of the show. Like for example someone may only use ratings 1-5 (5 being the highest) and since MAL considers 5 to be average it would affect the overall score. So yeah MAL's rating system...not reliable.

Same.

Most people on MAL confuse serious criteria with things that they personally like or don't like about the show.

Sometimes, but the good news is that the mods are finding duplicate accounts trying to mess with the ratings. For example, if you have 5 MAL accounts giving SAO or Fullmetal Alchemist the same score, then you get 4 of them removed by them as a warning, otherwise you'll get banned.

Why.... Why are you putting MAL on a pedestal like is the white baby Jesus of anime?
Don't ever in any site trust ratings. Because rating represents people personal enjoyment of a show. Not your own by any means. Same way with reviews. More importantly, people can lie like a mother fucker or exaggerate things out proportion. Just like a black guy trying to get away from an obvious white supremacist cop.

Look a this, seriously look a this!
Brynhildr in the Darkness

How is it a show with an ending so anally bad yet got 4 stars on CR? Seriously
I don't trust ratings as a way to determine what I may like or hate. Only to view what is popular.

How does that even work, though? They got different emails right, so how?

I think I.P address. Not sure if MAL has access to that info, but that would be my guess if there are different emails.

Duplicate accounts get suspected and reported by the community (so the mods will know what they're doing). There's currently a support thread telling people to report any suspicious duplicate accounts that they know. (by posting links of usernames responsible for duplicating accounts and messing with the ratings along with pictures if needed). Here's a link: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=245618

It kind of works like the players in Ragnarok Online reporting people using 3rd party software or cheating devices in the forums, but with lots of pictures included.

Umm, I kind hope the mods have ways to prove and disprove stuff. Because I saw a lot of cancer on the thread. Like people complaining that somebody gives only 10 and 1 to series. I kind of do that myself. Similar names? Really? Well depending on the situation I guess but by itself is stupid. All the good names are always taken. Like there this guy who got reported for giving Gintama a 1 and a bunch of other series 10. Even thought when I check is anime list tend to give harems like a 10 vs not harem shows a 5 or 1. I guessing personal taste?
I don't know man, that look like people mad a other people scores than anything else.

Like I am weird myself. For example, I give Brynhildr in the Darkness 10 out 10. But that in personal enjoyment. With a review, I will give it a zero. Because the ending is bad.

Ratings are mostly bad. They exist because of opinions. Take the average person giving something a five star rating without any attempts at critiquing what they experienced. You get too much of that and something becomes overrated.

I mainly just use MAL to keep track of what anime series I have watched and what ones I plan on watching. And also keeping track of the few series I have dropped. (I'm still new to anime. I think there was only 5 series I dropped so far because I couldn't get into them after the first 2 episodes)

As for the ratings for series, I end up just giving them ratings based upon how much I actually enjoyed the series. I think the lowest rating I gave a series I completed was a 6 and the dropped anime I rated as 5 because even though I never liked it most of them I dropped I knew other people enjoyed and I knew they were not terrible, just not my cup of tea.
