it just sets itself apart from the big 3 of the shounen jumps main squeeze. Naruto, bleach, and one piece of course. The reason is that you probably dont like is because of the length of any action not happening. Most of the arcs there is a lot of chatter, but thats to keep the story flowing. There is no pointless fights in the entire story since all the fights actually have meaning towards to help character progression, a new friend, or to move the entire story. Also its not as flashy as the others, but the story is interesting. Think of it like soul eater where it had 3 main characters, now in hxh there are about 4 main characters and each have their own arcs in itself except leorio and In this latest arc, he could possibly have his own now.

I personally found it entertainng as it shows that the powerups are not dbz level because they still showcase that the main characteres are still young pups.
However, the show is not meant for everyone to enjoy. I feel that maybe a lot of people enjoy hxh because of togashis yu yu hakusho. So maybe that might of helped out as well

If you are looking for a follow-up to YYH, go to Flame of Recca. I agree with several of the posters above: H X H is a very different beast from YYH.

I shall do this. While I am now currently watching HxH, I have yet to see why it's so highly regarded. It's fun, but nothing amazing yet.

I haven't seen the new version, but the original was just amazing to me. One of my favorites. I loved how they went into the mechanics of fighting and explaining techniques so much. The characters are so intriguing and their interrelationships mesmirizing. So much creativity was put into details like villains, scenery but overall kept the pacing and imagery simple. I will always rank it as a masterpiece.

It's consistent, well-thought out and very dark. It subverts some of the shonen tropes: for example, Gon and Killua aren't seen as the most powerful, and indeed in some arcs, take a back seat to some of the main action but learn and grow from every experience. The build-up to encounters is pretty great and the villains aren't stereotypical, neither are the resolutions. That's why I liked it anyway but what do I know haha.

chill.
people always want a show to have a good plot, character development, and all but then complain if its not amazing right away.
hxh has a decent amount of episodes and doesn't rush things.
give it time, i promise! it gets really great and dark.

Just because it doesn't sit so well with you doesn't mean it will be the same with someone else.

I hated it at first too, I felt it was way too kiddish for me. It gets much better as things move on, the Spider troupe arc is where things actually get good, if you can hang on that long. The story itself isn't that great, it's definitely the amazing cast that carries the show. Once you meet Hisoka you will understand. One thing I can't stand about shows is when the main character is a total bore, it takes a long while, but late in the series Gon gets interesting.

Wow. Seems like it took a while for a lot of you to actually like HxH. For me, it was around the end of the exam arc and the beginning of the following arc that totally pulled me in.

A lot of people seem to name the bigger arcs as the signature arc for them, but for me, there has to be something relatively early to set the tone of the series. For example, in One Piece, I liked the zany adventures they had at the beginning just going around and collecting crew, and that kept me watching, but Arlong Park is when I first felt that this series became EPIC and Luffy cemented his position by blowing away any doubts I had about him as a main character. Likewise for HxH, during the end of the exam arc is when I began to get an inkling of where the show was going and the following arc cemented it for me with Hisoka firmly establishing himself as the main... uh... focus for future viewing of the series.

It takes quite a while to really get rolling. Quite a few people bailed on the series in the first arc because it seemed too childish but I think that's a mistake since it really isn't representative of the series as a whole.

idk i was pretty interested in it from the beginning i tend to drop shows within like 3 episodes if i don't find it appealing

i personally really love the characters. Although two of them pretty much get written off in the last arc of the anime... which was awful in the manga but I didn't mind it as much in the anime. Still, there's almost no humor once you get toward the end, which isn't a good thing for me but again, the characters kept me pulled in.

ohhhh boy

That's because you're in the beginning, where everything is light and laughter.

Get back to us when you watch the York New arc and Chimera Ants arc

Why don't you wait until he is a hunter if you don't like watching tests?

I do enjoy HxH but its not my favorite. Its a good show, not as good as YYH but that's just my opinion cuz YYH is one of my favorite anime of all time. There are 2 major problems I have with HxH, one that seems to be on the verge of being corrected since Togashi made his return. That was the complete lack of a satisfying conclusion for Kurapika. Way too many unanswered questions. But hopefully that'll get cleared up.

But the thing that keeps HxH out of my top 5 is having such a good arc in York New to just an absolute awful arc in Greed Island. I was so into the show then found myself completely bored with that sorry excuse for a plot. I actually stopped watching for awhile. Yes the arc was saved by my favorite character Razor and had a pretty good ending but as a whole it was significantly weaker than every other arc. But besides that there a more than enough great things about that show that keeps it in my top 10
