HxH is the best series to date as far as im concerned. as laeuscgretired said YYH is an amazing anime and has more than HxH has.

but the wonder of HxH is the fact that its not an anime bound by boundries, all it tries to be is the best it can be and that goes along with the creativity of the author.

im assuming like me most people watch anime for entertainment, and the adventure of HxH is simply fun, its unique system that is later added is like candy for us.
HxH is prob not the best most perfect anime ever but its fun and exciting for most viewers. there are people that just dont like it. personally i was bored with the first fewty episode, but that mostly from my stigma of how amazing the first series was. i still like the 4th exam from then and miss it, although its a filler exam.

started pretty slow imo. i actually dropped it for a couple months before going back to it, and i do not regret picking it back up.

the dialogue is engaging. like, there were some episodes of pure dialogue, and i was fully immersed.

and i think the characters are nicely developed. this is probably the only show that made me feel bad when the most evil being on the planet died.

oh please... the phantom troupe is so epic they defy logic. and many of of the other characters.. black widow demon goddess, knuckle, meruem. these characters are so vibrant and well done.

you've got to be kidding me with these sort of "hunter doubting" posts that pop up sometimes.

Not much to say that hasn't been said already, but I felt almost obligated since it's my favorite series.
There are some really great characters in HxH (Kurapika being my personal favorite).
The writing is top notch and refreshing for a shonen.
I think if nothing else, try to at least make it to the chimera ant arc. It seems to be a very polarizing arc - many people disliked it, but I think the majority loved it. Personally, I think that arc is one of the best stories I've ever seen unfold, in any medium. I felt so many different emotions throughout the course of that arc. The Chimera Ant King is not only one of the best written villains in shonen, but also one of the best written characters in general.

If you really aren't enjoying it as you say, then feel free to drop it. I just felt like I had to toss my opinion out there.

Thank you for your opinion on it all and stuff. It is nice hearing the opinion of someone who loves the series. I don't hate the series, but I was not thinking it was the best thing ever either. For the most part up to the point I got to it was just kinda Meh. I wasn't liking Gon for many reasons (His personality doesn't click with me and he looks like he is maybe 5 years old, not 10.) and the rest of the cast took a while to warm up to. They all seemed like asses at first till you got to know them some.

Also when I started watching the series I was expecting it to be like other battle type shows where there was action with humor mixed in during the duller parts. So far to the point i have gotten there has been very little action aside from when Gon was trying to get the ball. Even when I thought there was going to be some action fight, Killuia just killed him in a single strike. And the humor of the series, which most of these shows tend to do in-between battles is pretty non-existent. Least from my stand point with what I found funny or not, very little joking every happens and the characters take themselves and the situations much more serious then what I was expecting. Especially considering the person who wrote Hunter x Hunter is the same one who did Yu Yu where those characters very rarely took anything overly serious,

I'm probably going to just watch the series every once in a while, but I don't think I could binge watch it like I did originally is all.

Why don't you wait until he is a hunter if you don't like watching tests?

That's mostly because I don't like skipping things. I will watch a series in order whenever I can. I'm probably only gonna be watching a few Episodes of this a day if I get bored till i reach the good parts everyone keeps talking about in the series.

For me HxH was one of the best serieses what I have watched. I watched '99 version where Exam arc is better (my opinion) and got hooked till end. When I watched remake I felt that first arc was little boring but I knew whats going on after that so that kept me going. I don't have any specify arc what is best because every arc got something what was good.

Now just waiting to series to continue.

I think the difference between an average story and a really really good story (like the difference between and 8/10 and a 10/10) varies from person to person. Something gets popular when it manages to hit a point that a lot of people like. This seems to be one of those times when that happens with a story that's also actually well-written (from what I've heard, anyway).

I've considered watching it, but I've read things about the characters (bios and such, a bit of spoilers) and it doesn't seem like my thing.

Oh man, it's just so much fun, and the characters are adorable cinnamon rolls. I got really into it, but it's also extremely frustrating cause it's one of those shonens where they feel like they have to spend ten years explaining everything, and sometimes they wasted far too much time on shitty side characters that no one cares about. I found myself skipping so much of it, especially during the Chimera Ant arc because it was just boring. I feel like if they'd focused exclusively on the main characters, it wouldn't be boring at all. It would also be way shorter. Seriously, there's some really good shit in the Chimera Ant arc, but to get to it you have to wade through so much awfulness.

But definitely stick around until the Yorknew arc. Definitely the best part of the series. It's dark and twisted, and Kurapika's an absolute savage. Again, they waste a lot of time following around the stupid fucking villains, but there's definitely a lot to like about it. I'm really hoping that they decide to continue the anime once the manga has more chapters.

YYH is good? There was such an over-reliance of deus ex machina and plot convenience throughout the entire series. The series became an absolute joke when Yusuke's "father" was revealed to its untimely conclusion. But I digress, it's still good by shonen standards, just not near as good as HxH.

I admire Togashi's style of incorporating much variety in his story arcs. I think when it comes to enjoyment, that alone is what makes a lot of people enjoy it. The subtlety of the plot segueing from story arc to story arc both in style and tone. There's definitely room for improvement though.

It's probably my favourite anime, or at least tied with Gurren Lagann, and the reasons why I love it so much wouldn't be apparent at the beginning of the show. My favourite thing about it is the progression, how the characters develop and where their personal arcs go, the way the story rarely plays out the way you expect it to or the way most shows would take things. I love the interactions between the characters and how their relationships continue to grow and how nothing ever feels unearned. Every pay off or conclusion feels logical and makes sense within the rules of this world and the topics the show tackles are way more interesting than most shows ever bother to attempt.

One of the main things I love about the show though seems to be something you're not enjoying though which is that the characters in the show take everything seriously. This to me makes the show way more engaging and is what makes me care about what happens to these characters. It makes things more believable and the stakes higher if the characters actually seem to care what happens to them and if they get scared or upset and they're not just constantly making jokes even when they're in bad situations. There's definitely action and humour in this show but that's not all it's about. It feels like a very real journey to me despite so much of it being fantastical and honestly it's one of the best experiences I've ever had in any medium of storytelling and I feel like there's so much more to be done with this series that I often get sad that it's over and the manga is moving so slowly.

Not sure how well I conveyed a lot of my thoughts there but I thought I'd just chime in and try and give a bit more of an idea of why this show is so well regarded. I think the show does so many great things that even if those things aren't what you particularly might enjoy or find compelling, it's still possible to understand why people love it.

I started watching this anime cold without any info to lead into it except for hype. I gotta say that I thought that it looked stupid in the first episode especially from my lack of knowledge about each character.
The way that I began this series kinda reminds me of my beginning struggle with watching Bleach. Like Hunter x Hunter, Bleach was boring to me for the first season, but once the series took off, I was hooked. I would recommend just giving the show some time to dig in to the main story and if you still aren't enjoying it, then the series just isn't for you.

Possibly because the 1998 series had music or feeling that people can relate to easily. I'm no anime supernerd, but I consider HxH above average.

Hunter x Hunter did take me a little while to get in to. The Hunter exam arc was pretty childish for the most part, and heavily reminiscent of early Dragon Ball. Granted it did have its cool moments though.

It picked up for me quite a bit immediately afterwards with subsequent arcs- particularly enjoyed Heavens Arena. But then by the time Greed Island rolled around I reached my lowest point in terms of enjoyment level. Yeah...just did not like it at all. The whole premise of it just seemed pretty stupid to me. I think it only lasts like 20-ish episodes, but it felt longer when watching.

The real meat of the series was in the Chimera ant arc though. And that is pretty universally loved by fans, and for good reason. It did drag a little here and there, but that didn't really detract from the arc's enjoyment as a whole for me.
