Normally I'm a sucker for romance/sad/drama anime. For the longest time I have heard how this movie is very good and sad and I kept putting it off so as it was something to look forward to watch one day and I finally just finished it about 5 minutes ago. That said I feel really disappointed in episodes 2 and 3.

Edit: OK so it appears I need to rewatch this. I seriously thought the girl from episode 2 was the childhood friend/love interest the whole time and the main character started called her by a surname or something. So thinking that she was Akari obviously made it very frustrating to watch. My thoughts have changed but I definitely need to rewatch it to form an actual opinion. Never have I made such a mistake as I am normally very attentive.

Oh no, don't rewatch it.

I feel the movie was an exercise in poor storytelling with alot of money and time spend on drawing pictures.

Story 1 was a love story.

Story 2 was a "maybe he almost gets lucky with some other girl, but doesn't because he pines over the first girl"

and Story 3 was "He's now getting lucky with a 3rd girl, and girl 1 got married"

it's broken, it's not cohesive, and it's a bit masochist. I could go deeper than the rude insult I've given it, but I feel it's only worth a rude insult.

Agree with Felstalker on this one. I feel like it intends to capture that nostalgic "What could have been?" feeling that we all experience at some point, but because it's so disjointed, it only manages to evoke it in a shallow way. It's so realistic that it's mundane, and that doesn't make for great fiction.

Alright so I'm not alone on the overall bad taste it left. its ashame the story was just not good considering the art in the movie was beautiful, same with the soundtrack although the last song in episode 3 just came way to abruptly and felt out of place. Thanks for sharing your opinions as I definitely felt let down as I thought it was gonna be so much more

I didn't like it. It was boring as hell. The animation is alright though.

The Garden of Words was quite a bit better.

When I watched this I wanted a slow nostalgic movie, so this hit the mark, and I really enjoyed it.
I watched it twice. The first time I felt sad/confused at the end and had a sad interpretation of the movie. The second time I saw how all three stories connected as one, and found a much more optimistic interpretation to the movie.
