On last 5 years I have noticed new trend in Anime, more and more 3D animations is used in products. I don't personally like the direction where it's going currently but it seems to be "future" way to do anime.

I know it's easier and cheaper to do some things in 3D for example complex "monster" and places where is far away many character moving. But 90% of those animations looks really awkward to be honest (for example The Irregular at Magic High School - ball scene).

Well also to defend 3D in Anime, there is also great way to use 3D in Anime like in Eve no Jikan (Time of Eve). If I remember right whole Background / World is made with 3D but it is so well made you can't even notice it's made in 3D.
Another great use of 3D would be Karas, it's done with few little tricks to hide "bad" 3D in anime, simply really dark overall theme and dark scenes where 3D is used.

And now there is also made whole serieses "only" with 3D like Ajin and Knight of Sidonia.

So what is your thoughts about 3D in Anime?

If the series is a 100% 3D like Arpeggio, I can enjoy it. I would actually like to see more of these! But if they don't do it right and have choppy animations, I feel like I enjoy it a lot less. (Personally, RWBY is the only one I've seen that can perfectly nail most of the animations.)

But if it's a mix of 3D and 2D, I really don't like it. I don't think it's a cheap way of doing things, it just looks bad due to the conflicting art styles. There's some way it can be done correctly, like in Time of Eve, but animes that have 3D background characters end up standing out too much.

Yeah, 3d is fine with me, the more they use it the better they'll get with it and the prettier it'll look.

I typically have no problem with it but in some cases it can be a little jarring.

It's cool and I think helicopters, cars, virtual reality worlds and giant robots (like in Immortal Grand Prix) look better in 3D. Golgo 13: The Professional, for example, should have stayed hand-drawn, but they did do their best with the whole 3D helicopters scene trying to bombard a building with bullets (3D wasn't well-developed in the 80s, so what do you expect?).

I don't mind if its used in some areas of a series..... BUT...... if it is used in a way that it stands out too much to distract the viewers, instead of making a sequence flow realistically, it can be an annoyance.

Vehicles usually look better in cgi.
It's also very good for shading. It's actually so good for shading you might not have even noticed it was cg.

I don't really have an opinion, if its done right then I'm fine with it, if not, then no. I wouldn't want everything redone in 3D or anything like that.

I think that If it's done right then I don't see a problem with it. Sometimes it can be a nice addition to a scene.

I think it looks nice for background effects and other non-character features when it's not used in excess, but I wouldn't want anime to become full 3D, especially for the characters.

A good point. It'd be too much if everything was animated like that.
